Does someone's name taint your perspective of them?, ...or not?

Many times, I judge people by their names (I know it's horrible) but I can't help it. For example, my very angry and rude ex named Matt has made me think of Matt as a name for angry, rude people.

And this incredibly (sometimes annoyingly) smart girl in my Chem class is named Elizabeth, and I connect the name 'Elizabeth' or 'Beth' to smart people.

So, how do people's names affect you?

:P

I'm kidding. not really, I mean...when I hear someones name, sure I always think of the person I know with that name, but I dont really think that the person with the same name will be like the person I know w/ that name.

*sigh*

Time for Kaycee to spill her guts on the numerous ways she has prejudice, and all of which she is ashamed of.
  • Ghetto names - I hear a ghetto name, I assume a ghetto person. ermm.gif
  • Indian names - I have, when hearing an "Indian name" imagined the very stereotypical kind, turban and everthing. NOT THAT I HATE INDIAN PEOPLE. It's just...just... sad.gif sad.gif sad.gif sad.gif sad.gif sad.gif sad.gif sad.gif
  • Names of guys I now hate - Uh, yeah. So if a person has the same name as a boy that either totally broke my heart or I just dislike for other reasons, I've found that I have a hesitance to talk to that person.
...I feel really stupid now.

When reading books, I imagine someone I know with that name. >_<;; I don't really judge people by their names anymore during first impressions, although I used to. But then I met way too many people with the same names and it sort of cleaned that up..

There are certain names that may alter my first impression of them, but I try not to judge people by their names. ermm.gif

The two names of my ex-best friends alter my judgement of people with those names. I barely meet any people with that name though so its all good.

I know a five-year-old Asian girl named LeTisha. cool.gif
I really want to meet someone named Edgar... or EDWARD, hahah for the Stephenie Meyer books!

I'm extremely partial to blond guys named Evan...
Boys called Neil have never been my type of people.
I kind of wince whenever I hear the name Elizabeth because that's my younger sister's name. rolleyes.gif

Umm usually i'll be like my friend so-and-so has the same name. But it doesn't really effect me; I don't judge them by it.

Some like hella latino names make me think they're like in a gang or something but then when i see them or hear what they're like I change my mind. That's the only judging i do, prolly cuz i live in a hella latino // gang type area.

Yes, sadly. Names just remind me of certain people. Like if I met someone named Alvin I assume he has a big head. Or jenny I would assume she is short. And Chris is a fob. XD.gif

Unfortunately, yes. I always think of a previous person I've known with that name if I have known someone with that name before...usually that impression fades, but it can tend to stick for a little while at least.

Yes, unfortunately. I associate names with people I know... but once I get to know that person this association is not significant at all. It's only a factor that contributes to first impressions for me, I guess.

Yeah, that's about all I do too. It doesn't affect me negatively.

Sometimes. Usually if someone has the name of someone that has hurt me, or I just can't stand I'll call them something else (I usually make up lots of nicknames for my friends). Sometimes when I hear strange way off ghetto names I do associate them with their name... the first thing that pops in my head is not a lawyer. It's sad.

If your name is pronounced as if it's one letter, I assume that you're cuhrayzy. :]

I guess I do like personal experiences get in the way of how I look at someone with the same name. For example, if I were to meet some guy named Daniel...yeah, it would be awkward for me to talk to him.

All the Crystals I know except for one are extremely stupid. extremely.

Names like Tessa and Britney usually make me think of really snobby girls.

I don't let names alter my perspective of someone. Unless your name happens to be a posh one like: Albert, Alfred or Jeffery.

I guess there are some names that give off impressions, usually if it's the name of someone well known or famous. Which is why you judge by name.

For example, names of former Presidents and/or leaders or scientists tend to make me think of them being old/smart/geek type. I.E. George, John (depends), Albert.

Eh, maybe I'll have more ideas later.
