Agreeing to disagree sounds perfectly reasonable to me. Either way, I do appreciate that you communicated some things here. Best of luck, regardless of what you decide on doing.

Well, hey man, you made sense to me when you said cB's got to relax a bit.

It's also worth pointing out that many ideas I have—and many ideas that the staff has—require micron to co-sign, simply because its his site. And we all know he only shows up once in a blue moon, furthering hampering efforts towards improvement.

But really, Rebecca, what do you think I pointed out was wrong but never actually acted on?

So you'll understand if I disagree and say that I didn't act on my ideas. As the By-Laws showed, it's CB's nature to discuss things forever and then never really do anything. And that's not my fault.

I got them done eventually...

Mmm, I don't particularly agree with that. It was more that micron needed to make those changes because admins only have control over the forums. I specifically remember a few ideas you brought up that could only be implemented by micron simply because no one else has/had access to changing/editing/fixing them.

Correct. So why am I being criticized for not acting on those changes, when the only power I had was to suggest and lobby for them?

I had a novel typed up almost as long as your 20 page pamphlet over there, but I decided to save it.

I just have a couple things to say. My name is Suzzette with two Z's for one. happy.gif

#2 I'm sorry you feel like I'm holding a grudge against you, you preach about how people should PM and/or email you off the forums if they maybe took something you said in the wrong way, I wish you had done the same with me because you definitely have misunderstood me.

#3 I agree with the last sentence of your post. Maybe unregistering is the right thing to do.

Should I PM you? _unsure.gif

The reason why I feel that way, is because YOU feel that way. YOU'RE considering it.

And the reason why I proposed it in the first place is because of the posts I've seen you make about school and how you're wasting your time playing with kids on an online forum, and how you shouldn't be taking the internet so seriously.

I'm sick and tired of it.

And I guess that's a NO for the PM.

"Post about school", wtf? Like...just general posts about school?

And the only reason I've said I feel like I'm wasting my time is because, well, most of CB isn't that interesting. Posts like who texted who today and whatnot are dull. Thing is, I couldn't just ignore them when I was a mod because there was continue pressure to "post, post, post".

But point taken. Sometimes I am too vocal in venting frustation.

Yes, there just aren't very many of them.

Actually the only ones I can recall are in this thread. Do you have any more examples? huh.gif

I actually don't see WHAT this has to do with Moderator Performance.
Are you saying the Mods on cB need to be less serious, and more lenient? Hasn't that been brought up enough? Aren't there individual threads about that?

I am quite frankly, just confused. If you could explain to me the point of this discussion it would be greatly appreciated. I do want to continue discussing it, and I offered to PM you, but you kindly ignored that.

In a word, yeah. It's not so much a rules leniency thing, just a more liberal approach to management of the forums. I think that the staff, intentionally or not, gets stuck in a conservative view of the forums and is sometimes unwilling to implement new policies or ideas. And yeah, some people are a bit uptight about rules.

But I think the heart of the matter is not so much external rules, but internal rules. I'm a bit dismayed that I was essentially forced out as a staff member, simply because I didn't post often enough (even though I came to the forums several times a day). But I'm even more dismayed that a guy like kryogenix is basically asked to leave for similar reasons. There's no doubt that there's a high turnaround in the staff; I think there's a reason for that.

Basically, I think the existing staff is too quick to recycle members. At other forums I belong to, the moderator list is fairly static. It doesn't really take that many individuals to mod a forum.

Part of the problem is that CB mods have a large swath of territory to watch over. When kryo came onto the staff in January, he suggested giving mods a smaller number of forums to watch—a practice common at many other online forums. His request was denied, which is fine, people disagreed, whatever. But maybe the denial was a bit too swift.

Kryogenix had a good point: He spends a lot of time in Technology (as do I). So why not make mods like him and I responsible for only a small number of forums? And why not only worry about them if they're not, um, moderating? Being a good mod doesn't mean one has to post on a daily basis.

If I'm an old dinosaur around here, kryogenix is, well, whatever dinosaurs evolved from. And he and I both keep coming back here because there's something we find really cool about CB. But then we try to help out, and are basically dismissed, mostly because of things like "you complain too much" or "you don't post enough".

So yeah, I think the whole criteria for being "active" and a "good mod" and a "worthwhile member of the community" is way too serious. It's clear that kryo and I want to help out because no matter what, we keep coming back here, and yet we often times get dismissed.

And in general, Suzzette with two Z's and two T's, I think you're being a bit dismissive of my efforts to help out around here. Even recently, just weeks after I was pretty much asked to leave the staff, I offered my services to help implement the CreateWiki, which I think is a really cool idea and a piece of software with which I have a lot of experience. I've also posted numerous times in Feedback, offered a few tips and resource info in Website Help, and so forth. And prior to all that, I did offer a lot of ideas. Some were dismissed, some weren't, but I haven't exactly idly sat by and done nothing to improve the site.

Thanks for you technical support, Michael. But I don't see what that has to do with being a Mentor. Maybe you could be a cB technician? Maybe I am being dismissive, if I am...I apologize for that. However, I am not posting here to compliment or praise you. I'm not trying to belittle you either, I am just being critical.

Can you clear up a couple things for me though? You seem to be contradicting yourself, maybe it's just me. _unsure.gif

You previously say you stepped down on your own accord, and now you claim you were bullied off staff? What's up with that?

Your views on leniency/how things should be run, confuse me. You say moderators should be more lenient, yet aren't you the same one with pipes about how posts need to be more sustaining and serious around here and less trivial/fun? What's up with that?

Kryo says he left because he was "bored with cB" and "didn't like it anymore" (aka stepping down on his own accord) but now you say he was told to leave cB. What's up with that?

That is exactly the problem Michael. You hit it right on the head. "Why worry unless they are not moderating?" That's exactly why we were worried. Kryo wasn't modding or contributing his ideas. In fact he was spamming, posting pointless topics, and then closing them. That's more than just "not modding".

Why would we make a seperate modding group for two people? You seem like you want createBlog to stop and make the rules work around you.

Where have you been trying to help out RECENTLY besides the cB/wiki thread?

A lot of members have done the same things that you have done as well. Diana posts her opinions a lot, and so do plenty other people on this site. I'm looking at you as an equal with them. You are looking at yourself as someone who should get special treatment because you were a previous moderator.

Also it's two Z's two T's and two E's. _smile.gif

Well, it has to do with being a Mentor in that he is giving advice and opinions...

Or, is that not what Mentors are for?

Oh, I stepped down on my own accord in the sense I wasn't fired. But I certainly did not feel welcome on staff.

Nope, and this sentiment is the thing that is most baffling to me.

Once upon a time, especially when the "CB is so boring!" talk reached its apex, I said some things along the lines of, "Maybe if we had topics that actually had more discussion, rather than just drive-by posting." I thought I was pretty clear, but somehow it got twisted into, "Michael things we should all discuss philosophy and complicated mathoscientificmumbojumobo." And I'm not sure why, because I never said people shouldn't have fun, I said it would just be nice if people posted topics that were discussion-worthy, not just things in which people posted once and never returned again. People can discuss Star Wars or whether Skittles really do taste like the rainbow for all I care.

I'm conjecturing, based on the fact that kryo always says CB is boring and he wants to leave, but yet always comes back.

Not sure where you got this idea. I don't recall saying that.

Well, how recently do you mean? Weeks? Months? Years? I've proposed a number of ideas on here. Check around the forums. CreateWiki, feedback about rules and policies, ways to generate greater interest in topics, especially those in the forums, and so forth.

And what about you, Suzzette? Since we're putting my record on the line, let me pose the question to you: What have you done for CB lately? I certainly don't see you proposing ideas and such publicly. If anything, you usually just shoot criticism down. Why aren't you just a regular member who posts ideas from time to time? Why do you get special treatment?

One can even ask why any Mentors do. Some of them are obvious—previous admins, for example. And there's Sammi, who was Head Staff and served here a long time. But you're an engima. I recall you being neither Admin or Head Staff, nor do I see you actively working to improve the site as a whole, so one can ask why you get special treatment.

Because I'm posting BACKSTAGE about my opinions/views and the whole staff team knows that. Backstage is where the Mentors should be.

I was definitely Head Staff for a while, please get your facts straight. huh.gif

By the way all three Mentors (Carrie, Sammi and I) were all head staff.

So the only real difference between you and me is that you can claim you've discussed things Backstage, and I don't have that luxury.

But that doesn't really answer my question. You asked me why I can't just discuss my ideas in the Feedback forum. I ask you the same: Why can't you make your suggestions just like anyone else?

The answer is the same as mine: Having a more direct line of communication to the rest of the staff makes it quicker and easier to discuss certain ideas and issues, as well as keep up with the future goings-on of the site. There's a lot of information that staff members are privy to first—information that can help in providing guidance for the site as a whole. So while both you and I could bring up such topics in the Feedback forum, you and I both like the direct line of communication that an actual staff position brings.

QUOTE(brownsugar @ Apr 6 2007, 3:52 PM) *

I stand corrected.

I'd also point out that I was Head Staff, too.

I know you were and I wasn't denying that you were.

I don't CLAIM I have discussed things backstage, I have, and I don't need to prove that to anyone.

I DO discuss my opinions in the feedback forum. I bring up issues backstage AND in the community, and I don't always shoot down critiscism. Sometimes I agree, sometimes I disagree.

I'm not trying to write you off forever or anything, but learning from past experience I would like to see you doing things more CONSISTENTLY before a promotion.

(I might have to pick this up later)

I'm not talking about activity, James. I'm talking about CONSISTENCY. If you say you'll be here when you're needed, and you'll have a lot to offer then be CONSISTENT about it.
