I've never used a Novell. I've seen them, but never used one. Linux is fun, but strange. &Their emblem's a penguin. So, they pwn. Agreed. I use Linux daily at work on servers, I have used Suse, Fedora, CentOS, RedHat, Debian, Ubuntu (SUCKS!), FreeBSD, NetBSD, and a little OpenBSD. I still like Windows Server 2003 for many server functions. But it doesn't matter what I like, the customers like Linux, although half of them do not know what they are doing with it. It is very awkward to use. Novell is a joke, the end. LAWL! |

Yes, you're right. There's no one switching from Windows to a Macintosh anymore. ![]() Amazingly so, Microsoft has sold 20 million copies of Windows Vista in this amount of time. Looks like people are still using it, sorry Mac users. Apple will never own the market. Apple will stay there, as long as they are there Microsoft can’t qualify as a monopoly. |

Having tried Vista today, I honestly don't see any significant improvement over the previous version except maybe that the interface is now even tackier.
I know I am switching over to Macintosh since I'll be damned if I ever pay 300 euros for this x(. |

I know I am switching over to Macintosh since I'll be damned if I ever pay 300 euros for this x(. I am suprised you didnt see the changed. Apparently you did not install anything. The security features in Vista are so strict it is amazing, not to mention after a while they become annoying. Not only did they add multiple feature to the average use of Windows, they have a lot included more software with the OS. Two that most versions come with are Windows Defender and a year free of One Step or whatever Microsoft’s version of a Symantec is. Plus, you must have some bad taste, because the interface is amazing, if you want to see tacky look at some Linux GUI’s that are supposedly on the same par as Vista and OSX. One of the HUGE deals in Vista that is not pre installed in any other OS is Parental Controls, which are actually extremely nice in Vista. It creates report cards of where the account with the controls set have been website wise, what time of the day they can use the computer, which rated games they can play, which words they can see, what they can install, and much more. Not to mention toe wide array of drives that are preinstalled, and drivers that can actually be downloaded from the Update site. More and more network security settings (I will post a screen shot.) that allow you to turn off file sharing with one click. Plus less restart requests. I have yet to connect to a wireless network, but I have read there are many new features there as well. ![]() Who said people aren't still using Windows? Besides, 20 millions copies is what percentage of the Windows installed user base? How long has it been out? Yea, I would like to see Apple sell this ammount of anything within the first months of release. Although I am sure the iPhone might be able to do it. But, when Service Pack 1 comes out, Windows Vista will be selling like hot cakes, Just like Windows XP did. |

Mac OS X has had Parental Controls since Mac OS X 10.4. How long has it been out? It's been out almost two months. That amounts to about 10 millions copies a month, which isn't exactly a hot seller, given the installed user base of Windows. The fact that there was little more than yawns on the day of its release is a testament to its lack of stellar success. |

I honestly haven't seen any feature I wasn't enjoying already through another software. Also, I still have most of my computer's hardware resources avaiable; which wouldn't be the case if I were a Vista user.
So far I am 300 euros richer, and I enjoy the same advantages that I have experienced with Vista with the exception of a flashy interface, which I can live happily without. That is what I was calling tacky, by the way. Vista doesn't offer anything radically new, but it does make old stuff look "cute". |

Give or take, I'd take Vista. I've had no real problems other than the minor ones that Macintosh suckers like to complain about for hours on their blogs.
All in all, it's a very nice piece of software. |

All in all, it's a very nice piece of software. Its sad, I have read many not so happy Vista user blogs about how they can not get something to work or something of that nature, and come to find out they are using a 4 year old computer, although the Update Advisor told them not to buy it and upgrade, they do it anyway. I have had 0 problems with Vista, I have had it since it came out, I did a upgrade from XP with no problem, and I am using my old software on my 64 bit OS. |

^ Exactly. If you know what you're doing, you won't have any problems. It's really not that difficult at all. I've really enjoyed it so far.

my new laptop has vista. i'm easily distracted by shiny things so i LOVE the new interface. very slick and pretty. ^i agree that many people who complain about vista probably do not have the right machine for the OS. my father talked to this techie at best buy who said that the current hardware on the market is not vista-adaptable. also, vista, is nevertheless, a HUGE OS. unless your computer has the proper memory and processor, it's going to a) not run or b)run really badly. one thing i love about vista is microsoft office 2007. now, technically, it can run on an older windows version but it was made for vista. once again, i like the sleek 'ribbon' design but it's is, surprisingly, really easy to use. i speed through a powerpoint presentation (which has much more professional designs now) and word helps you complete very tedious little tasks really fast. i used it on windows xp and vista. it runs like a dream on vista. i don't think vista has groundbreaking programs though. in the short time i had it (about two days), i browsed through the programs. in addition to looking "cooler", the programs got tweaked to become more user friendly. one thing i do have to complain about is the amount of startup/shut down time. but it isn't anything that i'd uninstall vista for. |
