For the longest time I've wanted to become a vegetarian, and for a while I was, but it didn't work out because I wasn't getting the protein I needed because I can't cook and my parents did not support me at all. They said they knew I wouldn't last and that it was "too hard" to make vegetarian meals. It's healthier! I don't understand why the whole family can't go for it. You can use TVP to make spaghetti sauce, and it tastes EXACTLY the same as regular beef. Does anybody have any suggestions about how I can be vegetarian, even with a family that won't make vege meals?

I tried becoming a vegetarian, and I told my mom that I wanted to be one. The next day, she made delicious chicken for dinner. She claimed that I won't get enough protein. Anways, I realized that I will wait until I am in college and then make my own decision.
As for you, you can eat a vegetarian breakfast and lunch (at school). And all your snacks can be vegetarian. QUOTE It's healthier! Not necessarily. Vegetarian's can fill themselves up on carbs. Yet meat eaters can eat too much red meat.

^ yes that is true
My parents are vegetarian (vegan) and they drink soy milk which is actually really good -- if you decide to be vegan and my mom and dad take vitamins to maintain their protein level Rice is also good |

Vegetanarianism is not as hard as it may seem. There are many alternatives and it can open you to foods you'd never though you'd like. I am an avid fan of tofu, hummus and vegetable rolls. It all depends on how much you want to become one. Look up recipes online. Etc.

Ever heard of boca?
Its soy food made to taste like meat its really good as my mum is vegan. I find it hilarious that your parents are so lazy[and i say lazy seeing as they dont support you] to omit animal products and call that "too hard". So the least they can do is buy "soy meat" that you can microwave =] |

You have to take protein pills for sometime..
and those make you constipated. Honestly, eating meat is not that bad for you. I would suggest a diet of actually healthy food rather than only veggies if you're attempting to be healthier. I am on a no fast-food or soda diet, and it has been working very well. ^_^ But if you really want to become a vegetarian, I think the only way to do it would be to ask for your family's support and show them that you really mean it. You probably should also research vegetarian recipes online and how to healthily transition from a meat-eater to a vegetarian. I think you can do it if you really want to :D |

I'm a vegetarian, and my parents make me take protein.
My Dad was really upset at first, and I couldn't understand why. I ended up eating meat for a while, just to please him, but gave it up, again. I just can't sit and eat meat, thinking it used to be an animal. As far as finding foods goes, there are TONS of microwaveable meals, in the frozen food sections at most grocery stores. The selection's getting larger &larger. |

I actually decided to go vegetarian three weeks ago... or kind of. I still have dairy products.
I told my dad while my mom was overseas and he was fine with it; then my mom came back and she went nuts. She cooks meat like a psycho now... I can't stand the smell of meat anymore, even if it's ridiculously processed. I just don't eat any of the meat she gives me and I don't eat anything that's touched broth. I like tofu though, LOL. Daily pills are good. Mishyy, I'm also on a no fast-food/soda or junk food diet! WOOHOO I feel pretty lucky because I grew up not having fast food or soda, so I don't miss it much. My dad freaking gorged me on ice cream as a kid and then repeatedly told me I was fat though... |

Eating corn and legumes together will give you the amino acids to make proteins.
You don't need meat to get protein. |

You can search the internet too for some good recipes. I have a friend who is Vegan, which in my opinion is much harder than being a vegetarian. He doesn't eat anything processed, and is more of a raw foodie. He didn't know how to good either, but he learned over time. Some of the food he makes is really good. He dehyrates stuff in order to make chips and they are really good. It's always hard to make life changes without support, but if you show your family that you're really serious about this... they'll become serious about it too.

i'm a vegetarian.
my parent's support me, but they don't really go along with it. i usually just eat nuts, vegetarian cheese, ect. don't eat regular cheese. most of it has rennat[sp?] of slaughted baby calf's stomachs. be sure to take a multi-vitiamin to get your needed protien. the chewable flintstone's ones are mucho cool. seriously. and unsaltened almondsare full of protien, as well as eggs. here |

I don't agree with them on saying it's be too hard to make the meals, but I have to ask, how old are you? My only concern might be that you aren't getting the right amount of nutrition that you should. Like protein, certain vitamins & minerals, healthy fats, carbs, whatever you could possibly name. You're still growing, physically and mentally. You'd be missing out on a LOT of the stuff that is already in certain foods that you're completely taking out of your diet.
