Has anyone realized that when you get hit by big hard balls like basketball, soccer ball, football right on the face, it dosen't hurt as much as when you get hit by a golf ball or a tennis ball? Of course, either way, it'd hurt like crazy .. but I just wonder why the soft ones seem to hurt more and cause pain. These words come from my personal sports activity experiences. (Sports, outside, recreation centers). Once I got hit by a basketball right on the nose. I mean, yes it hurt, but only for like a minute .. and then the pain swept away, and I turned my attention back into the game. But getting hit by a tennis ball on the nose was pain in the ass ... got a nose bleed, gave me dizziness, just wasn't my day .... This might be lame to you guys, but it's true!

Lol. I got hit by a tennis ball once on my glasses, even though they didn't break the glasses hit my nose and my nose bridge started bleeding like f**k.

edit.

I think it hurts more because all the force is focused into a smaller ball, so same amount of force but more focused?

Balls in your face. Interesting topic. I think it has something to do with Science... and I'm not good with Science so I'll leave this one alone. whistling.gif

No, to me I think being hit in the face with a 5 pound ball is much more painful than a softball.

Smaller balls used for sports often have a greater density, but not always. Compare a softball to a tennis ball, for instance - the tennis ball is smaller, but the softball would hurt WAY more. And a ping pong ball wouldn't even hurt. On the other hand, I'd rather get hit by a basketball than a softball, because the softball is more dense and packs a bigger punch. Then there are marbles, which are smaller than most, and if one of those is thrown hard enough it can hurt worse than something up to a hundred times its size. Haha. I'm overthinking this, since it's obviously just an excuse to make another one of "those total bite-off of Suzzette's topic" threads. wink.gif

Why are softballs not soft?
WTF lol I play softball and like itt's so weird, baseball's are tiny and softballs are huge, and getting hit with one hurts for a year.
Having getting hit with a ball in your face [any ball] kills, like I remebmer a volleyball in my face, haha, and it didn't hurt.

Tennis balls hurt more than basketballs. I would know; I've been on a team for both sports. When I was still playing doubles for tennis a couple years ago, my partner served the friggin tennis ball right into my back. I don't think I played for at least another 10 minutes...just kind of sat there in the middle of the court during practice.

Supposedly, softball's are harder and heavier than baseballs so they can't be thrown as far. mellow.gif

Much agreed.

Although it may hurt more to you due to the fact that a small ball is small and going at a faster pace then it should be?

Haha, what IS up with these topics? I wish I never started it. ermm.gif

Haha, yeah. Another topic with an innuendo title. rolleyes.gif

I see what you mean about smaller balls hurting more the bigger balls. (You know, without context that sentence looks all kinds of wrong)

Although, I don't think golfballs are soft. ermm.gif

That's what I tought, lol.

I think it is pretty much the idea of density/size over which the force is distributed. Something to do with physics, maybe?

Hard balls are harder? xD
Also the force is focused in a certain spot when its small unlike getting hit with a basketball where it covers a larger area.
