I hear a lot of my friernds say that they have pushy parentes that expect way, way too much of them. But really, who's the one that wants the success the much? Do your parents really want more for you than you do? I would think that even if they didn't push you, you'd still want the best for yourself.

Who really, in the family, sets the standard for you? If you didn't have "pushy" parents, would you still work as hard as you do? And if you don't have "pushy" parents, have you pushed yourself to do your best?

^ I'm in the same situation as Suzzette. At first, it was so annoying to have them expecting so much of me when all my other friends could pass by with less. But now I'm learning to appreciate it, and I try to do my best as well.

Same here.

My mother expects a lot from me, and half the time it's things I don't want myself. That stuff creates friction between us. As far as I am concerned, she went through her life and made decisions that she wanted, so why force them on me? Don't I have a right to make my own mind on what I want to do with my time spent on this rock?

My parents didn't really push me too hard. All they wanted was for me to graduate from high school and make a living for myself afterwards.

1. Maybe the parents like the glory of being the parents of a smart, successful person.
2. Yes, but in a good way.
3. My mother sets most of the standards.
4. Of course not! I can't motivate myself to work hard. Right now my parents aren't being as pushy as they were and that caused me to fall behind on a lot of homework.
5. I've tried, I've tried. The results aren't the same.

Ditto. To be honest, I could really care less about courses like P.E. I hardly ever actually do my homework, and end up doing it the class before, or at lunch. I don't know. Maybe I'm not motivated enough.

My parents done care what i do. They don't care if i hangout all night and come home a 3 am
which is totally awesome! I block them out of my life because they are clueless about the whole fricken world! Some people think i have a good life but i bet no one could stand to live a week at my house. so that is why i party! they stop caring after a while. :(

Very good question. Honestly, my parents could care less if I get good grades as long as I pass. As for myself, I push myself to stop being lazy (I'm trying) and the only person I'm getting good grades for is myself. It makes me feel good. So pushy or not, I'm trying to expect a lot from myself.

My parents pushed me a lot when I was younger. But now that I'm older they don't really care as much about what I do. But I still work hard even though they don't.

I hate how they push me, but I realize that if they didn't push me, I wouldn't be where I am now. So I hate it, but I'm glad they're doing it because I get so much out of it...caring about my grades and pushing myself in the end.

My parents expect me to get good grades, practice piano every day, keep my room in mint condition, and have a good attitude. They don't know that I secretly slack off on CB. shifty.gif

I would have to say my parents do, but I make it happen, they want me to major in something other than what I want, but I'm not letting that happen, if I didn't have pushy parents then I probably would be the same, but they want the same, good grades.
