crunches are great for developing strong, toned abs. all you have to do is slowly increase the number of repetitions and sets as you get better with time. it's not something that happens overnight.. you have to constantly work at it. i started out doing 200 crunches a day. now i do at least 1000 a day. i balance it out of course. i don't do it all in one sitting. and it also helps to eat healthy. nothing too fattening to add on your tummy.. you want nothing but muscle to show. good luck =]

hahahaha.. yea i just realized that a lot of the posts i was responding too were ones you created hahaha.. i just comment on anything i see open and interesting to talk about haha.. you're not scrawny .. for many it's hard to gain the weight and look bigger. my brother is madddd skinny.. no matter what he does he stays that way .. he'll eat like a pig and it doesn't help either. but what i had him do was to increase the meat and carbs he eats to gain the weight -- over winter is really good too because your body naturally retains a lot more fat as if you were going to go into hibernation. and in the springtime he can work all that fat into muscle weight when it gets warmer.. that's for bulking up if you feel really small and you want to look bigger hehe. and yes i used to do 200 crunches a day which wasn't too much. and after about a month or so i was able to comfortably do 1000+ crunches .. you have to be dedicated and do it everyday though. once you lose it you can lose the definition in your abs again.

awww haha thank you =] .. i'm sure you'll one day develop a strong bond with your brother. he may be at a different level than you if he's getting married so there must be quite some age difference. give that time .. study for your last final .. good luck! nice talking to you .. take care .. by the way, i'm candy lol .. bye bye

Aerobics help (running + jumping jacks and such).

After about 2 weeks of doing running every other night and some push-ups/crunches, i've noticed some slimness/definition.

Just remember that fat doesn't just come in a single day, and it sure as hell wont leave as quickly either.

**brag brag: in the right kind of lighting, it looks like I have some sort of a 6-pack coming in.

guys with abs are yummm happy.gif im workin on my abs too and when i do crunches, i lift my feet off the ground. see if your legs are high (for example, straight up in the air) then that'll work your upper abs. if they're low (inches off the ground) that'll work your lower abs. so far they've been workin for me. i've got a 4 pack! good luck

well, doing that much a day is good, but everyday is bad, ur supposed to allow ur muscle to rest, enabling it to grow, guys dont work out everysingle day, your body needs, rest, and may i suggest protein, that stuff works very well. Trust me, i go to the gym happy.gif

i love going to the gym, it keeps me in shape and makes me feel great about my self, not to mention being more built than the other guys at school... hehe.. i tend to brag a little sumtimes.. tongue.gif

No offence 177emories but thats not true... its just a myth that has been proven to be wrongo! whistling.gif

you can work out to stay toned .. you can never be too young for that .. however .. doing heavy weight lifting and such will definitely stunt your growth .. you have to wait to do things like that AFTER you've reached your maximum height and won't grow any further from there .. so be careful !!

some guys naturally have the abs at a very young age .. it's more of a matter of keeping it up .. staying toned and exercising to keep fit ..

if u want abs, doing crunches for hours don't help. Doing 50 crunches over and over and over and over won't get you abs. There is a secret to getting a good body and most ppl don't kno it. The best way in my opinion to get abs is to run a mile everyday for a month. This will burn the fat covering yours abs, losing the fat will accent out the muscle. Eating correctly helps to, no junk food or pure fat. Doing 3 sets of 40-50 crunches a night and eating correctly, and burning fat will give u abs in no time. Make sure u stretch before exercising too.

UGH, some of you I'm sorry to say know nothing about nutriition or working out, no offense cool.gif

just to assure my credentials, I am a senior health and fitness major at Purdue University, and compete in the North American Strongman Society. I have twice qualified for strongman nationals.

anyway, onto the topic

1) eating after 8pm wont make you fat. There isn't a set time to quit eating. The best thing to do is to limit carbs within 3 hours of bed. Immediately before bed however, especially if you workout, you WANT to eat a slow-digesting casein protein source and a few carbs to help deliver the protein. The best way to do this is cottage cheese, or milk, with a small bit of oatmeal.

2) doing hundreds of crunches every day will ONLY give you abs with endurance. Abs are a muscle just like any other and are to be worked the same. Work them in sets of 8-15 reps. When that gets too easy, find new ab exercises and add weight resistance. If you go over 15-20 reps, you are working ENDURANCE. Also, they need 72 hours between workouts just like any other muscle, so quit doing them every day.

3) LIFTING WEIGHTS AT A YOUNG AGE WILL NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT! STUNT YOUR GROWTH. rolleyes.gif This is an ignorant myth perpetuated by people who have NO idea what they are talking about. the ONLY way to stunt growth is to injure a growth plate at a young age. Weightlifting in young teens/pre-teens will help place stress on the bone which will in truth help it develop stronger and denser.

feel free to ask any other questions.

the attached pic is me locking out a 630lb Conan's Wheel in training earlier this year. My last contest was May 1 in Ohio and I finished 2nd in my class, and won the Conan's Wheel, beating everyone in every class except 1 person. cool.gif

i was always wondering about this technique i heard from other guys and wanted to know if it was true or not. If you usually eat 3 big meal a day, and u switch to eating 6 small meals in a day, is it actually better for a workout routine?

and i was wondering if you take those protein supplements or creatine?

yeah, 6 meals a day is much better than 3. For your body to have ample protein supply and positive nitrogen balance, its better to take in protein/have a meal every 3 hours or so. Also by having 6 meals a day instead of 3, you keep your metabolism higher due to the body constantly burning fuel, which will allow you to keep weight off easier.

I take protein supplements, joint compounds, and eat about 5300calories per day at the moment. I have taken creatine inthe past however not at the moment.
