oh i see. so i guess in some the scholarship things are integrated with this "immigration situation" whatever. hella dumb.

i always find it intersting when i hear someone at my school say "we need to get rid of these illegal hispanics coming into OUR country and taking OUR jobs. We need to put a stop to all these hispanics jumping the border"

i see that you guys were talking about art. i think im going to a Botero ( i belive his name is Botero. ya know that artist that paints people in the shape of a mandolin? i think a mandolin) well yeah ima be going to one of his exhibits pretty soon. And i wanna see the movie Frida.
Hm, I've never heard of someone saying Hispanics in that context. shrug.gif I don't know if this has been brought up, but has anyone here watched "A Day Without A Mexican"? Apparently it's very revealing, I want to watch it as soon as I have the time.

what people dont realize is that the illegals are doing jobs the typical american WILL NOT DO. i mean, are you really gonna go srub a toilet if you know you can get a better job jsut because you are legal? does that make sense to anyone? im not illegal. us citizen all the way. so i dont really know how the whole illegal stuff works and getting citizenship and all the complicated stuff.
also, people here in the US need to freaken get through their heads that hispanics are NOT the only ones to come over illegally, there are europeans, africans, asians... people from all over the world want to have a better life and live in the United States of America.

does anyone know about the whole gaining citizenship by marrying someone from the country???? what if they divorce? does the person who's not technically american lose their citizenship???

ohhh and ive seen the movie Frida. I like it.

my aunt named her dogs Diego and Frida haha its cute!

So does anyone here like Julieta Venegas??!!

I heard that movie ( a day without a Mexican ) brought up a lot of controversy. I haven't seen the movie but I think the idea behind the movie es muy bueno, y algo que creo que todo los "americanos" que no quieren nosotros latinos immigrantes aqui. Lo deben que ver y entender la importancia de ellos *es very good, and something that I think all the "Americans" that don't want us latino immigrants here. They should see it and see the importance of them*

does anyone here read the spanish literary books (AP Spanish 5) I've read a lot of them because of my spanish class like: Cervantes, Quevedo, Gongora, de la Vega, and MUCH MUCH more. that class is so hard =/

My friend had to read Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabrial Garcia Marquez in Spanish, and she found it rather difficult. This year I'll be reading One Hundred Years of Solitude by the same author, and apparentely it's a great but difficult book. And to mention very detailed. shifty.gif

I've also read Like Water for Chocolate by Laura Esquivel; apparently magical realism is very popular with Latin authors.

ah i never really cared much for chicano literature.

I find that the dialouge in those type of books really stiff and theres no emotion to the characters.
and that its always the same senario over and over. not to mention the over use of "magical realism "

idk i proably havent read any good ones

Although I respect your opinions, I disagree with those who say that Americans don't want the jobs illegal Mexicans are doing.

The reason illegal Mexicans are doing the so-called "dirty work" is because they have no choice. Those jobs pay very little and have almost no benefits attached to them. Americans are not willing to take those jobs because they have the choice. Illegal Mexicans very well know that they are being exploited but cannot do anything about it because they are afraid of revealing their immigrant status. Adding to that is the fact that immigrant labor laws are not being enforced properly in this country.

If so-called "dirty work" starts offering higher pay and better benefits, Americans will take the jobs.

ha thats interesting for homework i have to read one of his short stories.

Im not sure where stand oh the whole illegal immigration situation. I do think that it has been blown up into major porportions. I think what bothers me about it is that the media has been making it seem like only hispanics are the ones who are crossing over illegally. Perhaps they are the ones who are doing it the most but they are not the ONLY ONES.

Do most of you guys speak Spanish at home and eat Latino food at home?

Well, I am not necessarily against illegal immigration since that would make me a hypocrit. I used to be illegal, not by choice, however. My parents decided to leave the comforts of the old country (Mexico) to come to the US. The joke of it was that the relatives that live in Mexico, are way better off than my shady-ass relatives that live here in the US. In fact, the ones that live here have found a way to collect on Welfare. How's that for Mexican pride? Viva la raza, lazy-ass, welfare collecting, raza. In fact, my Mexican relatives are educated, have professional careers, and doing very well. Hmm... Does this mean that all you need is an education to pull ahead??? Well let's see. We get all these immigrant workers from India that take away the jobs ear-marked for Americans. No one really complains because it helps companies' bottom lines. Yet, take a lettuce-picking job from an "American" and give it a Mexican, and oh boy, wait not fair. What is wrong with this picture?

Why can't my fellow Mexicans stay in their countries, go to school, get educated, fix the problems in their country, and make their existence better? Why do they feel that they have to boycott and protest becuase the American government doesn't want them here? Why don't they protest their own shady corrupt government? Why don't they instill change over there?

I am Mexican and yet I am disgusted by all the ones that come up here and expect handouts, or think that they are owed something. I'm also disgusted at the Mexicans in Mexico for being so corrupt and not making things better. Doesn't their Catholic religion teach them to be better Christians? No wonder my father always jokes about how hell has to be big enough to hold all these Mexicans...

I agree alot of my relatives are very lazy and its all about viva la raza with them.I remmber being in school and all the chicanos would be like "im not going to school tommrow in protest". i always thought when they did stuff like that they truely didnt understand the meaning of what those protests were.

FYI-Lucy [the official hispanic clubs'vice president] has had a name change Quarantine<a beautiful nothing anyother name changes should be stated in your next post or in PM to me.this is so people dont get confused and so i can update the first page.thanks =)

^ heh thanks, yeah sorry about that.

My Opinion On Illegal Immigration:
For some reason people think I'm illegal just because I was born in Guatemala. Well FYI, I was adopted, and I have a green card. I'm a citizen.

What I hate is that now a days, including my best friend, almost everyone thinks all hispanics are illegal or atleast classifys them as illegal. I mean for example, me and my supossedly "best friend" rides this bus and theres this girl whos hispanic who always tells my friend to just "hurry up" I think she dislikes us but back to the point, me and my friend were discussing it and she said "I wish i could just tell that hispanic slut to just go back to mexico bitch" and I just stood there standing like "Excuse me?" and see the the thing is this isn't the first time shes said something like that... well there were these guys working on our road to fix it, and well they were staring at us and she was like "EW! I DONT WANT TO BE RAPED BY SOME ILLEGAL MEXICAN RAPIST" and I was like.. "Omg." and she'll admit she's racist, and I ask her "Why do you accept me then?" and she say's because I was raised by white people. mellow.gif And well I tell her "Well if your gonna be racist, you don't have to be racist infront of someone of that race." I mean seriously, its just so stupid.

If they say all illeagal imigrants have to go home, well that means we'd have to back in time and send all the british who came here because all this land really did belong to the Native Americans Which is why they're called native americans.

Yes, I know I'm double posting. Whatever.

I think before Mexicans keep coming in, they should talk to people who started illegal immigration: the Spaniards.

I mean, they didn't tread into the Americas, go up to the Inca/Aztecs and be like, "OMG we want welfare plzzzzz give us!11" Nuh-uhhh. They were some BAMF's, they took it to the next level. They were like, "Mira, puto, esta es NUESTRA tierra ahora. Si no te gusta, podemos matarte, ¿claro? Vale." (Look, bitch, this is OUR land now. If you don't like it, we can kill you, 'kay? Kay. (Vale = "okay" in Spain.) ). And they're doing it BIG now, ya tú sabes. (you know). The Spaniards had illegal immigration down to an artform, fool. yeahhhhh.

(Note: This is only a joke, so please don't be offended.)
