GIMP Transparent Bar...is it possible?, =]

I have been wondering how to do this for quite a while. I found this tutorial for Photoshop but I use GIMP 2.2. I figured I'd try anyways though.

I followed the instructions & they worked great up until step 3. On GIMP, when you use the paint bucket tool it fills in only certain areas, kind of like MS Paint does. Is there any possible way to make a transparent bar in GIMP? Thanks. happy.gif

Yes, GIMP has layers. I don't need to download anything else on my computer.
