Whenever I'm in the middle of a really good silence, I always want to burst out laughing.

For example, if there's ever a time in class when everyone's just reading or being quiet, I can just feel the silence everywhereeeee, and I almost want to shout or sing or laugh.

Some people I know cannot stand silence at all, hence they try to fill silences with mindless chatter...

And some people can simply enjoy silence!

Any thoughts on the matter?

It really depends who I'm with and where I am when it gets silent. If I'm with people I'm comfortable with, such as my friends, it's all right. If it's with someone I've just met and we can't think of anything to say it's a bit awkward.

I don't mind silence though. It's good sometimes.

I enjoy the silence. Ooooh, must listen to Depeche Mode.
No, but I really do enjoy them most of the time. If I'm on the phone with only one person and the responsibility of saying something is equally divided, then, I either start humming, say an inside-joke or something to catch the other's attention. It usually works but sometimes I just say what's on my mind and that turns into mindless chatter that makes people go "wtf?". I don't mind.

Awkward silences are very very uncomfortable. But generally, if it's too quiet, I will break it by remarking on how silence can be a scary thing. :P

Mia: Don't you hate that?

Vincent: What?

Mia: Uncomfortable silences. Why do we feel it's necessary to yak about bullshit in order to be comfortable?

Vincent: I don't know. That's a good question.

Mia: That's when you know you've found somebody special. When you can just shut the f**k up for a minute and comfortably enjoy the silence.

Depends on my mood. Sometimes I love it, other days I hate it. *shrug*

It depends. With my friends, whenever there's an awkward silence, we make this sign we made up and then all burst out laughing. XD

But with others, I just kind of sit there...and cough or something.

Well They are really good, because all my classes are non stop talkers, so it's awkward but nice. But then they'll resume their chatting.

Silences are always awkward for me. Especially on AIM, which is why I don't IM people that often. Sometimes I enjoy the silence, like after a long, thorough discussion or debate. It gives me a bit of time to think.

I always say something random to end a silence. Something really, really random like "I like carrots." And then everyone starts laughing at me and make remarks about how random I can be. XD.gif
Sigh, good times..

I don't like silence. pinch.gif It makes me feel weird and it's also awkward. I like to do something to make it noisier like laugh or talk loudly to someone. Haha.

I can clearly bare with the silence. I had live in an isolated atmosphere ever since i was a little child. I'm pretty used to the quietness. As an result, i've became a super quiet person and turn away ALOTpeople.

Really? I remember when I used AIM regularly and silence would kind of be the standard. You know:

Hey!
Hey!
What's up?
Nm. You?
Oh nothing.
*silence for varying lengths of time*
-possible intriguing conversation here-
I gotta go, bye!
Bye!

That silence can literally last hours. I got so used to them they were never awkward. Now that I don't use AIM so often all of the conversations are actually useful, thank God.

for me i'm on the phone with a friend & we're both just bored & there is like silence..then suddenly my friend would say wassup. then i'll say i'm bored, then she says me too. & then it starts all over again.

sometimes its so awkward, like today i was with a friend..& then it was all silence & at times i have nothing to talk about with a friend..gosh usually when it happens i'll say "so......errr.."

Lol, every time there's an awkward silence, somebody says "gay baby."
A gay baby is born everytime there is an awkward silence.

^ Lol.

I don't silence, it's disturbing, ironically. Me and my friend just glance and each other and we automatically burst out laughing, strange how things work.

i like silence, it's soothing how you can hear your heart beating, your breathing, and that lone "tick-tock" sound of the clock in the background.
