I absolutely love this series! I am reading the tenth one right now. It depresses me a little to know that some of them might be written by a ghost writer tho. i hear that the gossip girl series is going to be repalcing the oc on the CW, and im so excited! i hope it actually follows suite with the books tho and doesn't just make up new stories about it.

O God I can't believe that "author" is making a buttload of money off of these sad excuses for books. None of them have real plots and they're just people liking each other and then not liking each other. Each book is the same exact thing but with different names liking different names. You know why it's so popular? Because it's an easy read. It's written for 5 year olds but about an adult topic. And people like that because it's like watching TV, but in a book. No wonder they're making it into a TV show or movie or whatever. It's like a replica of the O.C. or Summerland or whatever shit. HOW ORIGINAL. Not.

And yes, I read some of them. So I'm not talking from just reading the back of the book. I actually read it. And they were bad. OOOOH BLAIR KISSED HER INTEVIEWER OOOH SNAP! Stupid shit

Note: Gossip Girl came before the O.C. Actually, well before the O.C. And besides, they take place on opposite coasts.

And right, because this topic is a place where we discuss how stimulating the GG series are. Mmhm. Right.

Most of us realize that the GG books are extremely superficial and pretty badly written. We realize that there's pretty much no true meaning or deepness within the series. But that's exactly why we love them - they're a guilty pleasure. When you spend your whole high school career reading and analyzing a Margaret Atwood novel, sometimes you want a break from it all, and I think that GG does a pretty great job of that.

What's the deal? No one's expecting a book titled Gossip Girl to be the next great American novel. Like gigiopolis said, it's a guilty pleasure. McDonald's is unhealthy crap; doesn't stop millions of people from eating it everyday. I don't really see any relations between this and The O.C. at all, actually...the characters are completely different, other than the whole rich-white-prep description. And not even then.

i'm not looking forward to the tv show b/c

1-they are going to screw up the storyline
2-GG is going to seem like a stalker and not some sexy mystery girl who happens to know about everyone
3-Can't think of a drop-dead GORGOUS actress to play and fit the part of Serena
4-The seris is just another teen sex show
5-this will ruin our imagination of the characters and we will be dissapointed

Agreed with what the others said, we're not reading Gossip Girl like it's a novel we have to read for English and we have to analyze it when there's no story at all. We're just reading them because we want to, because we want to see their lives and how they roll. Tons of people in the world watch reality TV shows, but do those have much plot to them? No, it's just like Gossip Girl.

Didn't you guys say that the girls in the book were 7th graders?

I doubt they'll portray them that well in the show. Since they have like people in their 20's for high schoolers. They'd have to get like.... Disney actors/actresses.

^ Well the books cover a certain amount of time, although I'm pretty sure the first few books were written for when Blair/Serena were in somewhere like 10 or 11th grade. Maybe you were thinking of Jenny, who's younger than they are.

The latest few books were during their senior year in high school, college applications and all, and the summer of their last year in high school.

^x2 I think you're thinking of The Clique, in which the characters are in the seventh grade. The Gossip Girl characters are in their senior year of high school, and have recently all graduated, except for Jenny, who is in her freshman year (is she in her sophomore year in The It Girl?)

I still really can't imagine a Gossip Girl television show, at least not one that would remain completely faithful to the novels. It's like turning your favourite cartoon show into a real life movie. I mean, can you imagine a live action version of The Simpsons (not like the animated one coming this summer)? But I guess they'll make it work.

I don't like gossip and whatnot, but I can relate to what happens. Y'know, minus the hundred-thousand dollar shopping sprees and whatnot. I can't help it, I'm addicted.

I love Blake Lively and I think she's perfect as Serena. But one thing I don't like is that it looks like Eric is going to younger than Serena when in the book, he's older.

Penn Badgley as Dan is a huge disappointment. He's too hot. And brunette. Dan is supposed to be a rumpled, chain-smoking poet, not Owen from "The Bedford Diaries." I've always imagined Dan as a blond with short hair (don't ask.) And Taylor Momsen as Jenny? As in, Cindy Lou Who from Jim Carrey's "How The Grinch Stole Christmas"???

But I guess Chace Crawford as Nate is an alright choice? Leighton Meester better be as bitchy as possible, and get a shorter, darker haircut. Matthew Settle is too chiseled to play Rufus.

Yeahhh, they wouldn't want me as a casting director - I'd be sooo nitpicky. I think that they could have made better choices, overall, but I guess I'll have to see the pilot first. I'm iffy about Blake Lively as Serena - everytime I see her I think, "nice blonde from Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. Who smiles a lot." She was the PERFECT Bee in that film, but Serena?...I dunno, not to me.

And WHY is Eric younger than Serena??? That is so wrong.

I wish Aaron and Vanessa would be on the show...sad.

I'm still looking forward to it, though, with just a hint of fear. Maybe it'll prove me wrong and be great.

Gossip Girl is my guilty pleasure.
I know some people absolutely abhor the series and are all, "GOSSIP GIRL IS A DISGRACE TO BOOKS!!!!!IOWJFDF"... but I think it's a great, enjoyable series to read when you don't feel like freaking over-analyzing the crap out of classic literature. Though I don't expect anything great to come out of the TV show...

I think the person who should play Blair is the girl on the first book who well is supposed to be Blair.
