wondering if i could perhaps get some advice here??
i'm not sure what major/field i wish to pursue. then again, i'm only a junior in high school, so i've got time... but i've been doing some thinking about it. and i realized how much i love webpage designing. no, i'm not that great, but i can learn, and i'm DEFINITELY willing to. just, is it a decent living?? and what colleges offer programs with it?? |

yes to both questions. i'm already working as a part time web designer and it's great. i often get to work from home... its called "telecommuting". so i just set up netmeetings with my bosses and clients and discuss our projects online. it's quite decent.
Check these schools out: International Academy of Design and Technology American Intercontinental University The Art Institutes Chubb Institute Baker College Rochester Institute of Technology Westwood College Bellavue University Florida Metropolitan University Full Sail Briarcliffe College These are schools on or close to the East Coast. I didn't bother writing down schools on the West Coast because I have no intentions on traveling there. When looking for majors, look for any of the following: Web Design Web Development Multimedia Design Digital Design New Media Design Graphics Design Information Technology Good luck! |

don't pay much?!?! are u kiddin'? if you have experience, you can earn as much as $80,000 a year. It's a great career, but it's real competitive, and i'm a junior in HS school too, you don't have much time. You don't wanna go to college and spend all that money on classes and then you're like, "o nm, major change!" Decide what career you'd like to get into before you even apply for colleges because some colleges are known for a certain type of major, and you definitely want to go to the best school possible in order for you to have a good career and a good future.

Thanks for answering that Roxanne. I have been meaning to ask about that. I'm going to try and search for schools on the west coast. Thanks. :D |

QUOTE(177emories @ Jun 6 2004, 2:56 PM) i personally don't think it pays much... I disagree. It actually pays well, especially if you have a lot of experience. You can make up to six figs depending on what kind of skills you have. Like for instance if you know how program web applications or work with web databases. Don't forget that a web career is much more than just plain old HTML and web graphics. |

I've met two people who were web designers/graphics designers. They were laid off after the internet bubble burst. I talk to them on IRC, they are having trouble finding jobs now.
I always wanted to be a computer programmer. But then, reality hit me. The field doesn't add many new jobs per year. Whichever way you go, good luck. |
