Okay, so all I've been doing in the past is fake vectors to enhance my banners/icons (no worries, i didn't enter them in contests or anything). Anyways, I really wanted to try out vectoring. It seems awesome, but with a lot of patience. I think I've gained enough patience so far, so I decided to try to make a vector.

Instead of using the pen tool, I posterized a picture (of Amanda Bynes) and brushed over it in a lot of seperate layers. I just used the picture of Amada because the face was evenly toned, and the clothes weren't too hard or whatnot.

Of course, I am using PSPX as always [i don't have photoshop ), and my Wacom Graphire 3x5 tablet :]

Update 1:
So the downsides so far: basically, the eyes. They don't look like the picture much, only because I wanted to make them bigger & more "popping." And of course, the right eye is slightly larger than the left.
I still need to create the hair, clothes, and the lips.
Overall, I think that it looks pretty good so far. Let me know if the brushing isn't doing well, and that I should switch to the pen tool.
2 hours spent on so far...

(the image isn't thumbed)

its great for your first, and its probably 20x better than my first. but...
you should NEVER use the posterization colors. You can pick colors from the original image, or use other skin colors, but never use the posterization colors.
Also, don't worry about following the posterization lines so exactly, or else it will look choppy. Try to just get the general shape, not every little bump.

but still, great.

That is light years away from my first vector, which I'm still too embarrassed to show anyone.

Anywho, take Michelle's advice about the colors and shapes. Make them smooth and curvy and it'll look 10x better. It's looking like really good vector so far, keep it up! :]
