I want some new music so this is coming back!
Indie kids unite! ![]() So, one of the more mainstream indie bands I'm completely into right now is Sleater-Kinney. I'm sure the rest of you share my love. But yea, I'm reaaaaallllllyyyyy into them. Sure, I have been for a while, but I can't get enough of them. They're always great. Agent Sparks, another one I'm getting into is similar to Sleater-Kinney. Tilly and the Wall is great, too. I'm really happy to see more chick bands breaking out in the indie music scene. Gives me some inspiration. The Cardigans have a bit of a retro feel to them. It's refreshing. Another chick, too! ![]() The Clientele is really calm and easy. Nice for relaxing. They've been getting a lot of attention lately. Vitalic is just plain neat. Lots of electric sounds. Pretty obscure, way out from the mainstream music scene. If you've seen Lola Rennt, it's kind of similar to the music in that movie (which is also pretty cool). I've also been getting into Wolf Parade. A mix between traditional rock sounds and electronic ones. Kind of New Wave-y. Good stuff. Got any new and upcoming bands/singers that you want to share with the indie population of Createblog, or any to discuss? |

Did you get the Stars album I sent you? I've grabbed a few of the new Tilly and the Wall tracks, and I think I like it better that Wild Like Children. The newest enstallment of RLG can be found at http://winterdenim.blogspot.com, by the way. it's absolutely insane. Glass Danse (I wasn't at the original) -> RedLightGlow -> Glass Danse again -> Warehouse Groove -> winter denim. ![]() Yeah, sorry, I forgot to say thanks! Someone sent me a link to that site... but I wasn't sure if it was directly related. I just got 3 of Metric's albums, and I'm much fonder of them now than I was before. |

I was always a big fan of Shiny Toy Guns way before they got "famous" by a bunch of scene kids.
Daphne Loves Derby is also good too. |

No problem, WIlliam, you're quite welcome.
Apparently I misread my email and it wasn't as directly related as I originally thought. Warhouse groove reopened today! Perhaps this doesn't really relate to indie music, but I really like Beck right now. I'm also very impressed with the new Tilly and the Wall. I'm surprised I like it as much as I do. I don't particularly like the Islands, but it makes me laugh that they have a clarinet. And I finally got the rest of I'm From Barcelona's EP! I've been looking for that for months. |

Thought I'd bump this with some newer stuff I like.
-The Blow: Really fun and poppy, especially the newer stuff. I love Khaela Maricich's vocals. -The Cansecos: Kind of laid-back electronic dance music. -Cut Copy: My favorite dance music ever. -Girlsareshort: Cute indie rock; I don't know how anyone could hate them. -Joanna Newsom: I first heard the Final Fantasy cover of "Peach, Plum, Pear" and I liked it so I downloaded her cd. The first time I heard her voice I actually laughed, but once I listened more I think it's beautiful (in a rather odd way though). -Mirah: I'm a little late on this one, but she's amazing. -MSTRKRFT: Their remixes are incredible, and their cd isn't horrible for the standard "un tiss" kind of electronica. -The Owls: "Air" was the first song I heard and even though the rest of their album doesn't live up to it, it's still enjoyable. -Parenthetical Girls: I love them so much. Dreamy and sometimes creepy indie pop with great lyrics. -The Robot Ate Me: These guys are accessible, yet at the same time they have a different kind of sound. One of my favorites. -Xiu Xiu: Their new record "The Air Force" is one of their best, and probably their most accessible as well. I listened to it over 20 times in a row after I downloaded it... definitely one of the best in '06 so far. |

Joanna Newsom reminds me so much of Regina Spektor.
I've loved Mirah for years. Lovelovelove. I'm loving Deerhoof more and more and more every day. Really cool stuff. As well as Defiance, Ohio. |

It's very short, but sufficiently odd and randomly fun. I have yet to listen to any of Xiu Xiu's new album. I don't know how that happened. You still listen to a lot more electronic sort of stuff than I do. ![]() Joanna Newsom reminds me so much of Regina Spektor. I've loved Mirah for years. Lovelovelove. I'm loving Deerhoof more and more and more every day. Really cool stuff. As well as Defiance, Ohio. Really? I love Joanna Newsom and Regina Spektor, but I wouldn't really consider them that similar. Mirah's great too, but I haven't been able to get into Deerhoof. -The Notwist hasn't come out with anything new lately, but I'm really getting into them now, which is interesting since I've had parts of their album for quite a while and never really paid attention to it, but now I love it. Same for Electric President, practically. I didn't like them much at first, but I enjoy them quite a lot now. -I'm also actually starting to like Bishop Allen. Couldn't stand them for a while. -The Little Ones are good in kind of a cute way -Snowden I've just discoovered and I'm starting to enjoy, particularly "Anti Anti" and uh, etc etc |

There's another thread on here (this), but it's a little over 6 months old..
I like a lot of bands from TMG (Appleseed Cast, Brandtson, Copeland, Love Drug), EXCLUDING Cartel. DCfC and Daphne Loves Derby are really good bands too. (These bands are kinda mainstream. A little. ![]() There are a lot more indie bands that I like, but I'm too lazy to go on my other computer and look through the music. ![]() |

Yes, these are indie in a genre sense. However it could be argued that indie actually means to be signed on an indie lable. Sub pop has become quite a major label now, meaning that those signed to sub pop, are probably not indie as far as the text book goes. But most of my favourite music comes from sub pop. so yeah. Just thought id say something random. Btw im pretty sure its Black rebel motorcycle club. Just for your own benifit. Stars was a side project of some of the members from Broken social scene. Check out Broken Social scene you will most likely like them alot. Check out Jose gonzalez as well as Nick Drake for similar music along the lines of Damien Rice. Cheers Dwdrums |
