well that is the thing i notice first, the packaging. i look at that too when i buy things. but the only reason why i am buying it is that windows does really need an upgrade.

I am not going to buy it just because of the packaging, I just mentioned it cause i also had pictures to go along with the thread.

but thanks for the response i really appreciated it. it made my day.

just close this if everybody responds like that.

I ordered the express upgrade, which is free (plus $10 shipping).

I don't know if I'll install it on my computer though, because of this. I think it's really retarded..
Plus, hackers already have their hands on Vista.. I think it'll be a bit safer if I stay with XP for a while longer.

Some computers have Vista already built-in (like Dell), but you can't install it until the Vista release date..

You can find the express upgrade here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/getr...essupgrade.mspx

I got the express upgrade.
For Sony's Vista Upgrade you can only apply if you bought your PC/Notebook throughout a certain period of time, I believe it's the same with Dells.

Yep, that's how my new Dell that I got for xmas is.

I think its free... either that, or my parents already paid for it lol. It should be here in about two weeks. laugh.gif

If its an Express Upgrade, I wonder if I'll lose everything I have on my computer, or if it'll just upgrade itself and leave all my files and info?

Yeah, I think it's similar to antivirus softwares, where you can only install different types on one/two/three/+ computers.

I don't feel impressed enough with this software to buy it with my own money. Of course, if my parents offer me the upgrade.... biggrin.gif

The navigation seems to be very similar to Mac, from what I've seen so far. I think the safest way to buying this system, is just to get a totally new Vista computer from HP/Dell/Sony.

If you don't need a new computer, why would you need a new system, anyways?

Vista has a dock?!
I've never heard that before..

But they do have prettier themes and nicer icons..

I'd rather get OS X Leopard when it comes out.. But I don't have a Mac to install it on. sad.gif

Well, I'm getting Vista in the mail soon. I don't think I'm gonna install it. Not for a while at least.
I'll make my brother install it on his laptop first and see what happens. _smile.gif

If you upgrade it, your user settings and old files are kept. (See here.)

Really? But what if on the second computer, you didnt register to sign up for automatic updates? Then they would have no way of knowing that the cd has been installed on another computer. At least thats how it works with my anti virus program.

^ Thats just a guess though. Or there's probably ways of getting a cd key for the 2nd computer on the internet, or with a program If it wouldnt let you use the same key. shifty.gif

no i dont think the activation part does that. for "activation" it sends the ip address of your internet and what kind of internet you are going to use. thats why adobe told me for activation. because for adobe I had to Activate and Register, and i didnt know the difference.

i really dont think i need another key for putting it on my laptop but i will see.

Windows activation works differently—it sends some information on your hardware configuration, making it very difficult to put the same copy on another machine. (It won't run on a computer if two or more "vital" components change.)

I know. But you said that it's navigation is similar to that of Mac's, so I implied that you meant that it had a dock on the desktop.. But I don't think that it's anything like Mac. Mac is wayyy better than anything Windows will ever release.

Hmm, it has a sidebar. Which is pretty much like a dock for widgets. Kinda useless, IMO.

But it does have some interesting features like Speech Recognition and the new Sleep mode..
And the Windows SideShow thing seems cool, but you'd need a new laptop with the secondary display... ermm.gif
