A Dream Come True Options

So I've been playing the bass guitar for around 7 years now. I played a good deal in high school, but I stopped for most of college. But I've picked it up again and started playing a lot with some friends.

Problem is, I never replaced by original bass! Yep, even after 7 years, I still play the same Washburn P-bass clone I've had since I started. It's decent but it's in need of repairs. I also had to replace the nut and, not being able to find an exact duplicate, I had to buy a nut that was almost the same and file it down. It never got seated properly, and the tone of the bass has been off ever since. Not to mention that the fretboard could stand to be resurfaced, the neck is warped, and other parts are wearing out. Plus it's nicked and scraped.

I was at a local music store and saw they had a new Fender Mustang Bass on sale. I love short-scale basses, and it's long been a dream of mine to get a Mustang Bass, but I never had the money. But this one is being sold for a good price, and it's been there for a while.

So I thought, eh, what the hell? I have an oboe at home that I never play anymore. That alone is worth several bass guitars. Why not sell that and use some of the money to buy a Mustang Bass?

I'm still looking for a buyer for my oboe, but I've found one interested party. If all goes well, within a few weeks, I could be looking at buying a Fender Mustang Bass that looks like this one:

Same color and everything.

Aaaahhh! I played it in the store and it plays beautifully and sounds awesome. The neck is fast, and, being a short-scale bass, the frets are easily accessible for those walking bass lines. And it's so pretty, too! It's nearly perfect in every way imaginable. And even with a case, it's still less than $675!

That's a good selection, although probably not the one I'd pick for myself. I have tried it with Peavey's Pro 2000 amp and it gave a wicked sound; problem being it costs about 2000 dollars >_>;;.

I'd try the MAX 158 to complement the Mustang (supposing you play at home). This is the Amp I currently own (and which I'll give away due to moving) and I am really happy with its performance. I think you could get one for 140 / 120 dolars.

I hope that you can sell your other one. I don't know much about the bass. Haha... I have a couple friends who play and one of their dad's collects guitars. It's insane when you go over to his house because he has them hanging up on the wall and when I was little I always thought one would fall down.
