I don't think it will be dudley... it wouldn't really FIT in the way that aunt petunia would, considering the resentment she has for her sister

^ I agree. Dudley doesn't seem like the type to do that. Petunia has to be hiding more about herself; she's more likely to do something like that. She knows more than she leads on. Ex) her knowing about the dementors

No, not Lupin.
Aunt Petunia is a good suspicion. She does know a lot from what Dumbledore told her and/or from what she remembers from the past with Harry's mother. Though I can't begin to understand how that would fit in to the story. Hagrid cannot die either. He has to be of some use to Harry now that Dumbledore has died (but not completely left). Hagrid's always been sort of a silent sidekick to Dumbledore so I'm hoping any past happenings (especially of Voldemort when he went to Hogwarts) could be useful. |

I still think Harry is a horcrux, just for the record...
ah well. As far as Petunia goes, I would speculate that, at some point in their little quest, harry and co are forced to return to privet drive (possibly to seek refuge in a tight spot), and are found and attacked, forcing petunia to extreme emotion, letting her magic out... i think about harry potter too much. lol. |

I don't think Harry is a horcrux. Doesn't the horcrux contain a part of the soul of the person? So doesn't that mean that in order to destroy Voldemort, you'd have to destroy all the horcruxes? It was stated in the prophecy in book 5 that Harry and Voldemort can't live with the other one surviving also. One has to die. If both died....that wouldn't make sense, would it now?

The prophecy says that one has to die... it doesn't say that the other HAS to live...
Anyway, the prophecy is fallable... remember Dumbledore told harry that it only came true because Voldemort CHOSE to come after harry. One of the possible endings which i ssee is harry strugling with the idea of the prophecy, waiting for something to come along and sort it out, befor erealizing that he has to do it himself, and steppin gup against voldemort |

I remember when Dumbledore and Harry talking about this though I don't really remember what was said about that line. It didn't say that both had to die, just that one couldn't live while the other was alive. If Harry were indeed a horcrux, then to truly get rid of Voldemort, he would have to die. And I'll state it for the billionth time--Rowling cannot let Harry die unless she deliberately sets herself up for tonnes and tonnes of hate mail. :P
Edit: That is of course, unless there is a way out.. but I just don't see it. |

It didn't say that they both HAVE to die... i just think it's possible, and probable...
hmm... well... you know how you have to kill someone to make a horcrux? well, could harry kill voldemort, and then put the part of voldemorts sole which is (possibly) in him into voldemort's corpse (or anything, really) instead of a piece of his own sole, and then destroy it that way? or am i over thinking... |

I'm interested to see the secrets that Petunia has. She knows a lot more than she's saying, and as the book go on and on, she because more and more of a rounded character, and I like that.
Aaaand my two cents on the Harry-is-a-Horocrux debate, I have to agree with Mona that if Harry were to die, Rowling would be in a living hell for months, and she's a smarter cookie than that. I was under the impression that one died, and one lived, but I have to check back to make sure I'm right. And James, there is no such thing as thinking about Harry Potter too much. Also, I don't really know if Harry could do that since (and here I'm going to say that Harry is a Horcrux) Harry has to remove Voldemort's sould first, and then kill him. |

To be fair, i would imagine that Rowling's integrity as an author would mean she would do wat she felt was right for the book regardless of possible hate mail..
also, how many people ACTUALLY regard harry as their favourite character? because i know hardly anyone who does, people tend to like either ron or hermione more... and AT LEAST two characters are going to die, so i would imagine she knows that not everyone will be satisfied whatever happens... |

Yeah, I can't remember the exact line either. >_< But unless it's the end of the book or (like Mona said) she wants the hate-mail, she can't kill off Harry.

*raises hand* I like Harry as much as I like Dumbledore, Lupin, Tonks, the Weasly twins, Mr. and Mrs. Weasly, and Neville.

To be fair, i would imagine that Rowling's integrity as an author would mean she would do wat she felt was right for the book regardless of possible hate mail.. Hmm, you kind of gotten me there. I would expect Rowling to do what's best, but I'm crossing my fingers in hopes that "what's best" doesn't mean someone in the trio's death. also, how many people ACTUALLY regard harry as their favourite character? because i know hardly anyone who does, people tend to like either ron or hermione more... and AT LEAST two characters are going to die, so i would imagine she knows that not everyone will be satisfied whatever happens... And personally, my favorite character is Hermoine. But I know that for many, many readers (usually, in the much younger bracket) Harry is they're like, idol; a total hero in their minds. |

Why can't he still be your favorite character, though?
We're going learn more about Dumbledore in this last book but I just wish he were alive to guide Harry. There's always the moving Dumbledore character in the painting in the Headmaster's/Headmistress' office but it's not as though they're going to stay at Hogwarts. Edit: A (or at least one) major character, one close to Harry, would probably die but I don't think it will be Harry, himself. I wouldn't write hatemail (ok, maybe not hatemail, but a mean letter) for Dumbledore but I would for Harry. I understand how Dumbledore's death advances the plot for this book. |

Sadly, I think he'd HAVE to die. It's the last book. It'd be too up-in-the-air-not-knowing-what-happens. Well, unless she changes her mind and decides to continue the series, but in a DIFFERENT one. Like....maybe Harry 10 years from then.
Or, it'd be cool to have a series about....Harry's kids or something. =P I don't know. |

She isn't going to write any more books about Harry Potter after this but she did say she would write a prologue on the future lives of the characters that live.

My gut gut feeling is that he won't die. However, I can see how Rowling has set up Harry to be a Tragic Hero. He has the flaws, but he's always there for the rescue. And Tragic Heroes, always, always die so...

I say snape is good.
Because it would make a better book fo rHarry to have to overcome his differences with him. |
