It's good that you care for your friends. Somehow you need to get it into their heads that cutting isn't a good thing. But for now, they can just be miserable and mope in their own sadness if they'd like. A reality check will hit them soon (hopefully) and they'll realize how much they hurt themselves and everyone around them in the end.

It's not about respect, it about attention. These people probably think they're the shit because they stay home alone and their parents are too busy making money to care for 'em. Or, they think that no one can be more miserable than they are in the world because they're too sheltered, too pampered to know that there is more to life than their misery.

Honestly, I don't care about the reason for most of these cases, because there are none good enough to justify self-mutilation and/or suicide. If it's what they do for fun, let them have fun. If they're doing it for attention, smack them on the head and tell them to f**king stop whining and grow up.

And if their parents know about the cutting but are not doing anything about it, I suggest these people start looking for attention elsewhere.

Personally I'd never do it. But some people are seerriously depressed, and it temporarily relieves their stress, sooo... yeah there are better ways to do it, but I'll just let people do as they please

I feel sorry for them. I get angry at the people who are like "They're f*cking stupid & weak & attention whores.", because the people who are actually depressed & aren't attention whores can't help how they feel. It's their own way of dealing with things. Someone calling them stupid won't help their condition. They need someone kind who will talk to them & understand them, as well as needing to surround themselves with things that make them happy & will distract them.

I don't cut, and although I used to think that people who did were just attention whores, I know that there are some people out there who actually DO have problems. People who cut just because they think it's cool also have "problems" but their's are far less severe and more on the dumb side.

However, the act of taking a razor blade and slicing away at my arm is just... for lack of a better word, disturbing. I don't understand why anyone would do it, but I'm no judge.

There's really no point in cutting yourself, you can use any excuse in the book. That you it realives stress and what not, but its just a sign of attention in my opinion atleast. If you really wanted to die then go ahead and kill yourself the right way and not be some sissy and just cut your wrist.

There are a few kinds of cutters.


Some people do it because they've heard it gets you attention.
They're new to the game, and have probably only done it once or twice...
Nothing serious... but they may be in need of attention.

Some people start like that ^^
They figure 'hey, it doesn't get me attention... but i kind of feel better when I've cut myself'
so they keep on with it.

They can't quite get a grasp on their emotions, but physical pain is something they can understand. they get it. its no mystery.

That ^^ is how the body become addicted. The person has cut themselves when they have been overcome with anxiety. The body becomes addicted to the endorphins, because they get rid of the stress. They help make it go away.






This makes it hard to stop.

Self-Injurers are often seriously misunderstood. They become afraid of the reactions of others and refrain from asking about getting help.




HOW TO HELP:
If you KNOW your friend is injuring his or her self (males are affected by SI, as well) listen to them. Do not act disgusted and try your hardest to understand. Remind them that you are there to talk if they need it.
Many places and people will tell you not to inform the parents. YOU SHOULD. The person in question may not want the help, but if you let it happen, its just as bad as you taking a knife and cutting them yourself.
Tell the school counselor if the parents dont work or if you cant talk to the parents yourself.

if the person is older, (out of high school), gather a group of friends that care and tell the person how important she is to you. Tell her that she should get help and really try to be supportive.
