This reply isn't directed specifically at anyone...it's just what I think. I think being a mod has to do with a lot more than being nice. Being nice is a GREAT start, but it'll get you halfway if that. You have to be strong. That's how mods become "memorable" or "successful". You have to be open to critiscism at all times, and not feel the need to lash out or complain. You need to be able to look at it, accept it, think about it, apply it and move on. You might even have to compromise part of your natural personality, because you're working with a group for a group. i agree a 100 percent, with the bolded portion. even though ive never had a mod position before. *sigh here i go again with the chef to mod comparisons* i find that being a mod is alot like being a head chef you always have someone who will feel that you are not fit to be where your at. you will have that person who feels your not good enough to be where your at. you have to take that criticism and if its criticism thats worth listening to think about how you can apply your self to be better. at times as she stated you have to sometimes "compromise part of your natural personality, because you're working with a group for a group". same way in culinary arts. if you cant do that being that "head chef" you have to work with people,be open to peoples styles and opinions, and sometimes put your foot down when theres something you dont like or dont agree with. its all about leadership and strength with a pinch of kindness. ![]() [EDIT]and if it really irritates people that i use the comparison of culinary arts to being a mod and feels that the two have no correlation. one,i beg to differ in some ways they are the same. and 2 i have a passion for my line of work as i would for the position i applied for. my passion for cooking is something that some may not understand beacuse either they think its dumb or they just dont understand. ok now you can rag on me. ![]() |

Suzzette & Robbi, thanks guys! And I know my activity is one my main "flaws". I am hoping that after my family situation calms down, I can work on it more.
Also, those who put themselves down in their applications, "I want to be a mod, but I know that I'll never get because of blah blah blah", that really isn't helping your case. Just highlight your strong suits and be confident in who you are! Even if you aren't the most popular or well known member, it doesn't mean your application will be overlooked or discarded. Have a little faith in yourselves people, that is wayyy more attractive than a person who doesn't think they have a good chance at getting the job. |

For a pleasant change, I agree with Suzzette. People can't be appointed to staff solely because they are 'sweet', or 'nice', or what have you. Rachel fits the bill... admittedly I don't know some of the applicants well, but she seems to be prett much it...
Not to say that Rachel isnt nice and sweet, btw, lol. She just in JUST nice and sweet |

Just to add on to what Suzzette said. People mistake People Staff as a simply "community" position, a position used to interact with members and build connections. Though this is very important, the job is not purely that. People will definitely criticize and judge you and your abilities. However, you can't let this compromise your job. You've got to be strict but fair and not be biased on your decisions, no matter who your friends are. You can't second guess yourself. Think about a decision and discuss it with other moderators, but most importantly, trust your instinct. Moderators are hired because they should know what is appropriate around the community and what is not. Instinct is important. Make sure to give valid reasons when delivering punishments. Just a couple tips. Definitely, Robbi (who I miss on staff tremendously). You just do the best you can and KNOW that you aren't perfect and that you ARE going to make mistakes. Know that people are going to be quick to jump on you for those mistakes. It's just part of the job. ![]() I always find it interesting that at the time of a hiring, people tend to show off their softer side of Sears. Not that I've seen this yet, but please just be natural. Being pretentious or phony isn't going to get you anywhere. I think James is a good example of this. Trust me, James and I have definitely had our issues, to say the least. ![]() *Goes back to applications* Good luck everyone and please, don't be afraid to apply. You never know what possibilities you might miss out on. ![]() |

Well Design Staff position isn't availble, but I feel I am more than qualified. That's why I posted it in here, I'm sorry. ![]() Design Staff is a promotion, and when you get it...DAAAANNNGGG does it feel good. Just for now work in Xanga (I think that's what you applied for), and work yo' way up. Let me just tell this to all the people who are submitting for a design related job- You're going to be going through the graphics queue. You might see some horrible graphics that'll make you want to fork your eyeballs out. And you might see some great photography and manipulations and whatever. But, for the most part, you do reject a lot. People have the great tendancy to NOT read the guidelines, which I don't really understand because, you know, they are there for a freaking reason! *shrug* But be prepared to get PMs back (from people whose artwork was rejected) following the lines of "F--- YOU YOU STUPID MOD YOU DONT KNOW WHAT YOURE DOING!" or "YoU'rE ReTaRdEd! hehehe" or some pathetic long explanation that usually has nothing to do with the graphic in question at all. If you're going to apply, you just need to have a strong character and stick by your decisions. Don't let something in that you feel doesn't qualify. Always stick to your decisions. Ye be warned. That's all I have to say. I don't really know what else to say about myspace/xanga/LJ/blogger because all I really did was graphics, to be honest. I was just a photoshop savvy person, so, I conquered graphics. And would you please hire Michelle (Insomniac) so she can eliminate all the dang porn that gets posted in LJ Help?! I haven't really reviewed much other peoples applications... |

i would like to show my support for rachel. enough said.
also, james should be offered a chance. just because he doesn't get along with everyone doesn't mean he doesn't have something different to bring to the table. forget about his past and think of what he can help do in the future. he's probably one of the smartest people here and one of the more qualified for people staff. |

All you people keep saying so-and-so would/wouldn't be a good mod, but nobody says why. :( uh, yeah. :x i honestly think some people (not saying names; people in the chat already know) wouldn't make very good mods. for one, most of them don't believe in themselves. another thing is that some people suck up to mods, and that's not a way to get yourself on the list for being considered mod-material. 97% of people who did apply for people staff, need some maturing up to do; like tina said. honestly, i don't know what would happen to cB if those people were modded. i said a lot more, but i forgot it all. I LOVE RUNNING INTO TREES! -for tina. ![]() |
