So what do you guys think about the new ban on 'anorexic' runway models? Do you think it's going to.. help at all, or is it just futile?

I think that it probably will change because the only reason thin is in people's heads is because of the models. If what society deemed as beauty and perfection was plump, then that would probably be society's next goal.
I swear, I had like 8 grammar mistakes in those two sentences. |

I think it's commendable for the industry to be taking this issue so seriously, but i think we all know that industry standards are not going to change.

The ban is on anyone less then an 18 BMI right?
I think that... It won't do much good, at least for the models that are successful already. But it might let some of the models be able to... relax, and eat more? I mean, not all of them have eating disorders, but still. I think models in the end are still going to have to be considerably thin, and girls are still going to try to starve themselves to be able to get those jobs. |

I don't really think it'll make a big impact but hopefully, it'll keep some models away from the mentality that they must starve themselves to look good and/or keep their jobs. I've read/heard in the news that some even die as a result of this so if it can be helped, all the better...
And I agree with Mireh in that I don't think the standards will change much, if at all. |

Banning them in Milan isn't going to do crap. It's just going to stop the newer models. They need to be stricter in higher places like New York, LA and Paris.

i dont think it will affect that much. but i do like the ban cause they the models will be a little more healthier. but I feel bad also cause i know not all of those skinny skinny models choose to be like that, its just their metabolism.

^The thought of that makes my inside squirm.
![]() It's a small small start, but at least they're trying. It's going to be decades and decades before any substantial gains are made, but at least the problem is recognized and the effort is there. |

being too thin is bad for you.. but i think 18 BMI is still a bit thin. |

i think the whole "anorexic" models idea is kinda stereotypical. MOST models are not anorexic or bulimic but some are. its just because they're so skinny.

well, i do think of it as a big change. i mean..we're so use to seeing those skinny-non pudged girls that if we see someone with a normal weight..it's scary.

I don't think it will have this huge impact but it will do some help.

i think it will help somewhat but not that much.
designers will probably just move to other cities if they think their clothes look better on skinnier people. but the good part is that you'd finally be seeing some normal people like yourselves wearing the clothes and accessories and you have a better idea of how it might look on you. |

I don't think it's really going to do shit.
Hey--Models aren't normal people, and they have done what they had to do for their careers. You have to have a unique body to pull off high-fashion clothing, and sure what they are doing isn't healthy but they didn't tell millions of girls to throw up their food (or not eat) either. How about parents get on their kids asses about their kid's eating disorders, and get them some help? |

I think it's a nice attempt, and it raises awareness more than anything. Milan probably is 'shooting itself in the foot', but they're putting up a good fight.
