it's coming to a place where all opinions should be listened to, including yours, but also if she wants to believe it's not a sin, that's her porogotive, not yours.

& yes. the Bible can prove it.

Can you please refrain from forcing your opinions onto others in such a manner? Seriously, not the best route to take when you're trying to prove a point.
QUOTE(cheri_pi @ Dec 28 2006, 8:28 AM) *
Oh-- here's another way to think about it: Jesus gave you a brain so you could USE it. So think: Your friend masturbates and it helps her feel good. She's not hurting anyone or anything, it just helps her feel good. Is that really something that YOU feel is a sin?

Let's clarify the definition of sin, shall we? You can sin without hurting anyone or anything. Sinning is just the act of violating the laws of God. Though the Bible doesn't specifically say anything regarding masturbation, I think we can also use our brains here to make connections. In the Bible, it is a sin to have impure thoughts, namely sexual fantasies, that are often linked to masturbation. So you say that you don't have fantasies, does this mean you are still sinning? Yes. In 1st Corinthians 6:18-20, "Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? Therefore honor God with your body." So if we are suppose to use our bodies to honor or glorify the Lord, I'm pretty sure that masturbation does not fall into that category. Therefore, the absence of honoring God with your body deems masturbation a sin. Not to mention, masturbation is like a lie. It starts out with one small thing, but then it gradually increases to a couple and becomes easier to ignore the feeling of guilt. When something begins to control you, this is a sin.

*Please note that these are my morals, the beliefs I am taught. I'd appreciate your willingness to be open to my ideas, just as I will be to yours.

According to Catholics at least, masturbation is a no-no! XD.gif I dunno if they consider it a sin or not, but I know that it said in the Bible that you're not supposed to "waste your seed."

Jesus gave you a mind and conscience to use it, not to blindly follow him. Don't you think he would want you to be happy? It's not hurting anyone.
If you don't think for yourself, THAT's being sacreligious. Jesus would've wanted you to THINK.

Well, I suppose it's a valid argument (if by valid, you mean what a book says). Do what you want with your life- I respect your decision, even if I think you are quite mistaken.

Bah. You're not hurting anybody, technically its good for you...but there are a lot of things in the bible like this. Like....homosexuality. Its not hurting anyone, but people are all over it because its all "not ethical".

Seriously. I'm a christian. I really, REALLY super-duper one. I mastubate. Its a natural thing. No one really cares anyway....

If you confess every week for something you know is wrong, then you can't truely be sorry for it .. if you know you're just going to do it again.

Well, I suppose it's a valid argument (if by valid, you mean what a book says). Do what you want with your life- I respect your decision, even if I think you are quite mistaken.

Once again, sinning isn't about hurting others. It's about not obeying God. Even a good thing can be a sin if you don't have the right intentions. You could donate a million dollars to a charity because you want to get recognized as a 'good person'. That is selfish, because you're not donating with a pure heart; you're donating for fame, for attention. This is a sin. But are you really hurting anybody in the process? No, not really. In fact, you are actually benefitting the charity, but not for the right reasons. For the Bible tells us,
"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal." On the earth, the donation will reward you with recognition. But if you donate with a pure heart, you'll be rewarded with the riches of heaven.

The Bible isn't just a book; it's God's words; it's how Christians should live our lives according to it. Not to mention, the word "bible" can be used to describe any book authoritative or reliable in its field. So I'd appreciate it if you wouldn't use such a derogatory phrase.

That is alright. Everybody is entitled to his/her own's opinion. I am not trying to sway anybody one way or another. Heck, if you like masturbating, then you probably won't stop just because some random asian girl from cB tells you that it's a sin. I am simply being informative of the beliefs of my faith.

Why must my family baptize me under the name of Mary! cry.gif

_dry.gif I highly disagree with what I was being taught
when I was younger since I'm supposedly catholic.

I dislike being told to be god's version of some
mostly pure spectacular angelic being
to enter the pearly blissful gates of heaven.

I rather know from the bottom of my
heart what is good and what is evil or learn it on my own
then be told from someone else and gulp
down someone else's version of how things are.
Masterbating sin? BAHUMBUG.
