^ Beat me by like 30 seconds! haha.

Dell. Dell is a solid company and they have great, great computers. Hardly anything, if anything, goes wrong with them. Sony has had an ok track record with their computers. The recent battery recall didn't help either. I don't know about Sony, but Dell also offers free 24/7 tech support. Dell is definitely the better choice from what I've experienced and seen around the internet. You could always check out Consumer Reports and sites like that. Dells look pretty nice too. Especially the XPS. If you want both looks and quality, look into Alienware. They look really, really cool and are very well made computers. They're more souped up for gaming, though, and they're a tad bit on the expensive side.

For looks, DEFINITELY Sony. Sony laptops are freaking sexy. (I'd suggest the N series. They have AWESOME colors.)

I've owned laptops from both brands and I like Sony a lot better. The screen is really bright and clear. With Dell, the screen is ok. Not as bright or pretty.. And I really don't like the keyboards on Dells (7 keys fell off my first Dell laptop).
Sony has the Memory Stick thing, which is really bad because only Sony products use Memory Stick.. Dell has those 5-in-1 media card readers, which are really useful. Sony has it too, but the laptops with them are more expensive.

Sony laptops are of better quality than Dell, but they're a lot more expensive.. ermm.gif

If you want a really good laptop, go look at Toshiba or HP. I just got an HP Pavilion Entertainment laptop today and I love it! The HP imprint finish looks really great (and it's so shinyy!). You can get a good laptop for cheaper with HP, and the same goes for Toshiba. But Toshiba's laptops aren't really that pretty.

SOny hands down, i went everything with sony, and im impressed and love it but as everybody says they both have ups and downs, if u want quality and performance Sony is the way to go, its pricy but worth it considering the blue ray stuff out now.

Dont get me wrong Dell has been pretty good also, but i use to own a laptop and it was shit lol butthey do offer alot of free services.

From experience, I've seen Dell with better quality computer than a Sony that was about the same price. And the Dell was actually still cheaper.

I'm not sure if it's the same case with laptops.

I don't use either, I use Gateway. But from what i hear, Sony is pretty good. I know people with Sony Vaio's and they're not all that bad. Sony does seem of better quality, to me, the Dell seems kinda cheapy..but then again, that's just what i think.

Er. I have a Dell laptop - it runs fine and I haven't had any major problems - and I also have a Sony Vaio computer .. they're both pretty good.
