I wear glasses, I've been rockin em for 7 years now .. but people have suggested me to get contacts. My mom says it's hard to adjust it and stuff so she advises me it isn't the right thing to do .. so keep wearing glasses .. I hate wearing glasses because of many reasons. When I do sports activities, a basketball once hit my glasses and ruined some parts of the lenses so my mom had to pay $300 to get it repaired. I just think contacts would be better, but I've also heard it can damage your eyes badly. what are your thoughts and why

...why would hundreds of thousands of people use contacts if they ruined your eyes? Do you really think that the eye doctor would reccomend them if they damaged your eyes even more?

Complications due to contact lens wear are relatively common, affecting roughly 5% of contact lens wearers each year. Problems associated with contact lens wear may affect the eyelid, the conjunctiva, the various layers of the cornea, and even the tear film that covers the outer surface of the eye.

Lmao, point made.

if you like glasses, keep 'em.
i use contacts. you don't notice them & get used to them in about 2-3 days.
no hassle.

i wear glasses. They're recent so i'm still adjusting to them. They make me sweat a lot and i hate them for it but if i take them off my head starts hurting. Bleh i hate bad eyesight.

You're still young Statistik. Get contacts when you're 20 or something shrug.gif

LOL Suzzette I get it. laugh.gif

Usually the only way contacts can damage your eyes is if you leave them in too long or you don't clean them or the contact case properly. They have some that you can wear up to a month and receive enough oxygen for your eyes.

I once left my contacts in for 3 days, and every light that I would look at let off a rainbow glare.

the brand that I'm wearing is most recommended by doctors, because of how much oxygen it provides for your eyes. it's recommended to start wearing contacts if your eyes are very bad, considering how heavy your glasses would be. my optomitrist told me that it's fine to wear contacts at 13(yes, I'm 13), not 12 and under.

^ Um, alright. blink.gif

Anyways, I wear contacts. They're so much easier than glasses. The only thing is that you have to be careful not to sleep while wearing contacts - that's when you can seriously damage your eyes and need surgery. I started wearing them in arounddd 7th grade.

^ yeah i'm questioning you

i'm a contact-wearer and have been for about 4 years. i sometimes regret starting to wear contacts so early because now that i've experienced wearing contacts, i prefer them over glasses. with glasses you can only see through the lens and the outer side is blurry but with contacts it doesn't even feel like you're even wearing glasses. i guess if you're used to it. i'd saywait a few years maybe when you're in college or something. and the 5% of people whose eyes become f**ked up are idiots who don't know how to clean them and then think it's okay to wear them filthy and for long periods of time

Yeah keep "rockin" your glasses...but it's really not gonna make that much of a difference.

i wear contacts, but sometimes i get lazy and wear glasses. i prefer contacts because you don't feel anything and you can see all 4 corners

Holy fck. I scrolled down a little fast and those two eye pictures scared me. blink.gif

I don't wear either, but if I were to do so, I think I'd stick to glasses. I like their look (certain ones anyway) and the thought of constantly putting something in my eye doesn't appeal to me. If I were to get contacts though, it'd only be to get colored ones. ph34r.gif

I wear glasses but I have the gas-permeable contacts (which basically means half soft & half hard.)

Soft ones take your degree higher. My friend has soft ones. Her degree is like six hundred something...........
Hard ones are usually worn at night and they lower your degree.. (some people call it night contacts since you sleep in them)

And also, soft contacts always have to be clean or else your eye will get infected. Hard ones, I have no idea ermm.gif

I prefer my glasses. I believe I look better in my glasses. Yeah, I got hit by a volleyball once. I cried but it was because the volleyball had scraped my cheek. I was more worried about my glasses than myself.

Oh yeah, and my contacts (the half&half ones) maintain your eye degree. It may go higher or lower but it helps moderate it.

Basically, if you aren't a clean or lazy person.. I wouldn't suggest contacts.

That happened to me too sad.gif

I started wearing contacts over the summer, but than I needed more and never got them. Figure for yourself. I've been wearing glasses since 2nd grade and going to contacts I found to be a huge adjustment. I know it sounds corny but wearing glasses almost all your life makes them... like a part of you. Looking at myself in the mirror without them was strange. Seeing was just fine. It was nice to be able to look ALL around and see. Reading was a bit of an adjustment because my eyes just didn't like it with contacts in.

If you wanted to try them, go ahead. It's not like once you try them you have to keep them for the rest of your life. They'll also let you try different kinds until your eyes are nice and comfy. I tried to different kind and you can't really feel them when they're the right kind.

contact lenses dont allow your eyes to breathe. thus, creating infections easier, ect. ect.

id say..go for the contacts. my dad wont let me get them. but i only wear my glasses when im watching tv, or for looking at the board. so, i guess that's not that bad.

I don't wear my contacts anymore. I never got used to putting them on because I always had so much difficulty with one eye and sometimes both. I didn't get used to wearing contacts either so I stopped. Also, there was something on the news about the company (Bausch&Lomb) that manufactured both the contacts and solutions I own about their lens solutions that my dad made me stop wearing them altogether. :x

^Haha, aw...that's cute, Mona. Eh, not the Baush&Lomb part, but about how your dad was worried so much that he didn't let you wear contacts...okay, I'll shutup now.

I wore glasses for a couple of years but switched to contacts in April. Glasses are definitely easier to manage and sometimes putting in contacts is a pain in the ass, but I think it's worth it. IMO, when people wear glasses for years on end, they look scary when they take them off. mellow.gif

um i just started wearing contacts 2 weeks ago..
and i wear that becoz most people say that they think i look better without glasses.. :P
and i BEGGED my mum to let me get contacts for like 2 years and now i finally have it:D
well actually it doesn't make my eyes feel uncomfortable so far but iono.
i think u can try the disposable ones first. they're better than the long-term ones...

^ btw i don't feel any pain putting in contacts nor taking them out.. maybe ur doing it in the wrong way? and yes the washing part is troublesome.

Hey as long as you maintain proper hygiene when handling your contact lens, it's not that easy to get infected.

I've been wearing contact lens for almost 3 years now.

I meant pain in the ass, not actual pain. :P It just means that it's troublesome to put them in and out sometimes.
