okay, so i have this friend right. he's 18, graduated from high school, & leaving for the air force in january. we've been friends for three months maybe & we were pretty close, basically best friends. about two months ago he started telling me about this girl he liked. he told me about how they were really close and whatnot but she didn't wanna date him because he was leaving so soon & he was really heartbroken about it. yada yada yada, he finally told me how old she is. she's 14 which i have a major problem with. i know age isn't a big deal, but 18 and 14 is. he says it's not a problem to either of them and it's the "way she makes him feel" but i'm finding it hard to be a good friend & not let my opinions about it come out. what do you think? does it make me a bad friend that i'm not supportive of him?

i think you should just tell him and be straight up honest. what do you call a friend if you guys aren't honest to eachother?
you should be supportive too. =p |

Like.. First, you say that you don't want him to go out with her because she's 14, and then say that you support him on it? I think it sounds a little weird. Just tell him. Not too harshly though because that might hurt him. |

Friends support friends, but friends also tell the truth. I'd have to agree with you about disagreeing with your guy friend, personally.
Just..warn him to not get kicked out of the Air Force by getting too involved with a minor. |

No, I think you're right to be concerned about the age difference and them not being able to be together. If I were you I wouldn't recommend that they date either, but I suppose you can't stop them. Tell him what you think and that you don't want him to get hurt, etc. And no one said you had to completely support him...just don't get nasty about the fact that you're iffy on the age difference.

You could also explain it like if he had a sister that was 14 & this girl was her best friend and then ask him if he would date her. Show him your perspective on it and maybe he'll understand. If he doesn't care, then wish him the best of luck!

i have a couple guy friends who are like that...they're 18 and don't see the issue with dating someone who's much younger than they are. i think you should give them opinion without being too harsh but then tell him that you'll support him in whatever he chooses to do
