i'm trying to expand my musical taste. i'm mostly into rock/metal/hardcore, but i've been listening to alot of run DMC, Public Enemy, NWA, Wu Tang clan, etc. can anyone recomend me some rap/hip hop that isn't about blunts, bitches, and bigscreen TVs? that actually has a message other than, like, "get crunk"? thanks!

Hello, my name is Brandon Saunders and I am your representative to urban culture.

It depends on what you want to hear, but here's a few suggestions...

Ice Cube- Amerikkkaz Most Wanted
Ice Cube- Death Certificate
Public Enemy- It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back
Public Enemy- Fear of a Black Planet

Xzibit- At the Speed of Life
Nas- Illmatic
Jay-Z- Resonable Doubt
The Notorious BIG- Ready to Die

Outkast- Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik
Outkast- ATLiens
The Roots- Illadelph Halflife
Common- Ressurection

Mos Def- Black on Both Sides
The Roots- Things Fall Apart
Eminem- The Slim Shady LP
Common- Like Water for Chocolate

Lupe Fiasco- Food And Liquor

The list gets soooo much longer, but there's just not enough time in a day.

Black Star, (Talib Kweli and Mos Def are) Black Star

The early early early pre-Fergie Black Eyed Peas are good, too.

And K-Os. Check him out too.

K-Os is the perfect transition from other genres into hiphop because he's a well-rounded versatile artist (not just emcee) who is cognizant of the world around him, political but not preachy, religious but not self-righteous, and a Bboy.

Exit is more hiphop oriented while Joyful Rebellion sticks to reggae and blues roots.

Thats just it, he's trying to get into the genre while avoiding the garbage (with the exception of Bone). Akon? Snoop Dogg post 2000? Diddy? Yea, right.

It was well produced, but the pimp mantra gets old fast.
