Hey,... I need to do a survey for my Statistics class and I was wondering if the great, awesome, amazing, super-duper, elite people of cB would please, please, please participate... it'd help a lot!!

I'd post this in School or Fashion, but I kinda want the greatest number of people to see it and the Lounge seemed like the best option, but if it's no bueno, you can move it to wherever you see fit. =]

The topic we're testing is "How do labels affect consumer decisions"

Wouldn't surveying cB members give you faulty results?

The majority of people here are well-off (this is an assumption from the fact that we all have computers and internet to be members here), meaning you're likely to get skewed results about brands and salary.

Some of us are also from different countries, which plays a huge factor in the salary, and the state of mind when it comes to shopping for clothing (a poor country vs. well-off country).

And then age definitely plays a huge factor. There's 12 year olds here and also 21 year olds, which determines the amount of money and the type of clothing that is given.

I don't really remember much from statistics class, but aren't you supposed to limit yourself off with a given population, and then from there, randomly sample? This way, you won't get skewed answers coming from the Phillippines and Beverly Hills, CA.

Well, surveys are bound to have Bias. Thats why its one of the least effective ways of getting an accurate sample. So in a way, people who aren't being honest are actually helping cause. Plus, Skewed graphs were always funner than normal graphs IMO. _smile.gif

QUOTE(funk.this @ Nov 9 2006, 3:20 PM) *
I'm not counting the results of people from different countries and people who aren't in high school. I'm comparing labels TO how much people spend on clothing, so the fact that people in CB generally spend more money than the 160+ people in my area who took the survey is actually beneficial to me because I need a bigger spread of "well-off" people.

Since I'm studying the trend on where people shop based on how much money they spend, it's not really giving me faulty results because I'm blocking my population off in groups.
