The Philippines are in the Asia continent, therefore, Filipinos are Asians.

//edit: It's funny how my answer differs from Elaine (rawr SOCK)'s answer.

Here's some evidence to support my answer:

QUOTE
The Filipinos or the Filipino people are the native inhabitants and citizens of the Republic of the Philippines located in Southeast Asia.

But then they have to fill in the "Pacific Islander" bubble on standardized tests. mellow.gif

QUOTE
Inhabitants of the Chinese, Taiwanese, Japanese, Philippine, and Indonesian islands, although technically bordering the Pacific Ocean, are not considered Pacific Islanders because such islands are not located in any of the three regions of Oceania, and are therefore classified as "Asians" on the U.S. Census. However, a growing number of Filipino-Americans have denied the classification of being "Asian", instead claiming to be "Pacific Islanders", which has provoked dismay among some Pacific Islanders who actually belong to the Oceanic cultures comprising the commonly accepted definition of the term. It should be noted however that both groups are closely related ethnically and can be grouped together under one umbrella term, the Austronesians.

Hmm. Yeah, this is confusing me.

^ I think it means that some Filipinos do not wish to be classified as Asians, when they actually ARE Asians. :\

I'd say Pacific Islander, but I guess you could say Filipinos are Asian.

Yeah, which would you bubble in for a standardized test?

Yeah, which would you bubble in for a standardized test?

I searched and it said that some states have a separate bubble (Filipino).
In NY they have to fill in Asian Pacific Islander. Or Pacific Islander. mellow.gif

I think it depends on the state.

Dude, what's with all of these Filipino threads?

Anyway. WE'RE ASIAN. I've argued this for forever to the point that I've given up, now when someone asks, I say I am Asian Pacific

^agreed I don't understand what's with all these filipino threads coming out of nowhere, besides the filipino club. Philippines is part of Southeast Asia and will always be, so they are Asian and Pacific Islanders.

ASIAN.
In the Philippines, we were taught that we are southeast asian. They didn't say we were Pacific Islander.

My logic is, if Filipinos are Pacific Islanders, then the Japanese are Pacific Islanders too, because technically Japan is a group of islands in the Pacific too, isn't it?

My standardized tests say "Asian / Pacific Islander" so I never really thought about it XD
