I don't see any mods that are doing a bad job at the moment. No one on staff is inactive, everyone has over 5 posts per day except for a few which is fine. And everyone has signed in within today or yesterday.

Please care to name a few that may be having a problem?

Mine is a simple question. If a mod is complaining that school is a deterrent for being on active duty, why not step down and get back his/her position later? You should already know their names. I mean, who's on staff that's been saying that school's the reason for their lack of participation? ermm.gif You're asking the question like it doesn't happen while I sure that it does. Heck, I stepped down because I couldn't juggle school work, school activities, 2 part-time jobs, and house work. It's just a point of knowing when to quit or when to stop making excuses. 'Zat all.

^ Mods can't just "come back" anymore unless they are taking a prescribed break for a short time. For those that just step down indefinitely, they have to apply with the hiring session now...

And why not apply again and give everyone a fair chance? A few months from being on staff is not going to kill someone, is it? And if they did a "good" job, they would be reinstated for sure, wouldn't they?

^ That's what I did a few months back _smile.gif I'm just saying that can't just appear on staff anymore - or request the position back automatically.

That makes sense. You're busy and you know to prioritize important things in your life.

But you know what I mean right? It's not a big deal to step down because you have a lot going on. Heck, I call that being humble and courteous to the community.

I don't really know anyone thats really complaining about school except one person, and their thinking about what to do at the moment.

And Rachael said what I was going to say about how mods couldn't just come back after a certian amount of time, wasen't sure if I could though.

I haven't seen anyone use that for awhile. It may be that I'm just not looking hard enough. It was mostly when school first started, which for me personally was hectic.

Well, being this far into the school year already, if anyone is still complaining... Well... haha, I think my point was already made. But if that person is reading this (whoever he/she is), man... why do that to yourself?

But you see, This Confession, you know the answer after all, you didn't need to ask James and I.

Mods should not just come back and have their positions handed on silver platers, sure, but if he/she did a good job, what's to prevent him/her from getting the position back after applying again? huh.gif

Edit. Well, a few days wouldn't be a problem.

Yea it was hectic.
Of course I was homeschooled for 3 years and then to just go to high school and have to get it together in that short of time was hard.

I got it together after a few days, but I'm highly organized so it wouldn't take me as long as some people I suppose.

No they just started around 30 min ago, Or maybe a little bit longer. When you guys posted this no one that I knew of was complaining about it. So sorry about that.

Also I know plenty of people around cB that are just starting school. Some states just started school this week.. I don't know about when all the mods actually started.

Nothing should be stopping someone from appplying again, I think its fair for them to apply and have a fair chance like everyone else after they were gone for a long time.

i think you may all be missing the point...

the point wasnt that specific mods are currently especially inactive. it is a general statement of what should happen IF THEY ARE. yes, we all know that school starting changes anything, but saying that some people are just starting this week isnt relevant. the point is, if they are going to be CONSISTANTLY inactive, then they shoulld STEP DOWN.

thats all. it is quite simple, and im not sure how we're managing to make a discussion out of it.

Okay, well anyone that has had a problem with school has stepped down. I mean I don't really see a point in why you guys had to go in to this long thing about it if it was already being done -shrugs-

Thanks for telling us anyway.

Absolutely. A good example of what a former mod should do is what Rachael did in the last round of hiring. She was a former mod, very well respected and definitely contributed a lot to the community. She did not just ask for her position back though, she applied like everyone else had to. Perfect example of what the process of being rehired should be.

Also, I believe that for now on, former staff MUST apply before getting their positions back and that the days of just asking for your position back if you step down is over.

I hope that at least somewhat addresses the question(s).

Again, as far as the using school as an excuse for not doing your job... it shouldn't be happening anymore. If it is and you have someone specifically in mind, please let us know either via this thread or via PM if you want to express your concern anonymously.

for the record, we werent JUST talking abotu school, but life in general.. so it WAS relevant... but ok then.

and actually, rachael said that people cant just talk to admins about gettin gback on staff.... is that official? because it hasnt happend in a while, the last time i can think of being julia, but since then, has anyone actually tried and been told no?

Nah, Mona brought it up a while ago. That mods can't just get their postiion handed back to them if they've been gone for a while.

Perhaps it will change now though, so once you do step down you have to wait for the next hiring session to see if you get put back on staff.

I didn't think that it wasn't relevant, I just used the word school. Any type of repeated hiatus. I guess I should have clarified.

I honestly want to know people think I'm doing. Sometimes, I feel like I'm doing my job, but on the other hand, I feel overwhelmed with school and cB at the same time. Feedback, por favor?

i'm of the opinion that inactive mods shouldn't be removed.

i mean, what's the harm? inactive mods don't stop anything. there aren't really a set number of mods- that's kind of contrived.

if it bothers you that much, move them to "reserve" or something. I mean, if someone doesn't want to mod anymore, then sure, but i think this would keep us from losing many mods.

Ew, new page.

No, there isn't actually a set quota but I don't see the purpose of keeping them on "reserve." If the mod doesn't moderate, doesn't post, etc. what is the point of allowing him/her to remain a mod? I'm not sure what you consider harmful but why stay a mod if you don't have the time to do your duties? I think it just depends on the situation sometimes.

i guess it depends on your opinion of what should the role of a mod be?

are mods the "special elite" that protect cB from spammers and such, kinda like the police?

or should mods just be people you trust not to abuse thier power?

personally, i think it should be the latter. that way, the first person to see a problem can just deal with it, and you won't get like... 5 posts saying wrong topic.

sure, warning blocking kinda requires a lot more maturity (see warning on AIM), but as far as everything else, i'm sure most of cB is capable of closing topics, deleting links, and moving topics, which consists of the bulk of modding.

i mean, it's only online. so what if someone goes renegade and deletes a page of threads. we'll survive. it'll probably give us something better to tlak about as well.

now, i certianly doubt the powers to move and close topics will be extended to a larger population of cB ever, which is why i suggested the whole 'reserve mod' thing.

you've trusted them with the power before. so why, if they drop back in later, do you not trust them to move a topic or something?

it makes little sense to me.
