is it possible to do an imagemap on a none DIV layout?

Well, if you don't have a div then I don't see why you'd need an image map. You could link an image...

nah, its for my friend who wants a custom friends list, as in completely different placement etc

Well, that's not an image map. That's a custom friend's list.
You can make them at r4wr.com/friends

no it isnt. jesus im not a html retard. i have a friend, who wants a friends list doing that is only possible through image mapping. that is all. is it possible?

There's no need to be rude. I was just clarifying because you said you want a "custom friends list".

Yes, an image map is possible without a div layout; all you need is an image. However, most layouts with an image map include a div layer for the main content.

you could slice and just use linked images. that way you wouldnt have to go through the trouble of creating some serversite imagemap since im pretty sure myspace blocks out the "#" character.

you would still need a div for placement, and just another bit of advice: when asking for advice, it's best not to piss off the people trying to help you.
