Probably not a lot of people around here follow much in the way of the open-source movement, and even fewer know who Eric Raymond is, but if you're a geek who has a sense of humor, there's a great comic strip called Everybody Loves Eric Raymond that I highly recommend checking out. The current strip, Eric Buys an iPod, is pretty funny. The comic strips are basically built around the quirkiness of several high-profile members of the open source community, as well as other famous faces (such as one recent strip that stars Mark Shuttleworth of Ubuntu Linux fame). It's a good laugh.

The name rings a bell, I might have seen it on slashdot or somewhere, but I'm not familiar with the man.

Eric Raymond is best known as the author of The Cathedral and the Bazaar, the seminal work about open-source software development; and as the maintainer of the Jargon File, a collection of computer-related terms. He's done other stuff, too, like writing the fetchmail email program and contributing to libpng.
