Hello, I have 2 questions for GIMP. ^-^
  1. Whenever I brush, the main picture that is on the canvas turns grey, and nothing else happens. :(
  2. How do I make things transparent in GIMP?

Are you using the brush tool & not the pencil one? If you use the pencil tool when wanting to draw or use a brush, it will always trun black/gray & not the colour that it is set as. Also, if you are using the gradients, they don't work as well. I suggest just going to the custom colour window & picking your colour(s) there. It is much easier & gives a more of a nicer effect. And on the screenshot that you gave us, it always shows gray when you go to the brush menu. That isn't the colour that it is actually in when you place it on the picture.

About the transparency question, I suggest using the tutorial that dinooo gave you.

... You see that little box (last row, first set of boxes in the window called The GIMP)? The black one. Change it to another colour.

See, 'cause whatever colour that is will likely be the colour that gets put on the image. If that doesn't work then listen to the person above me. XD
