How does someone who used to sing "im like a bird, I only fly away" go in the completely opposite direction and become promiscuous?

(for you out there who DONT know, promiscuous means:
pro·mis·cu·ous ( P ) Pronunciation Key (pr-msky-s)
adj.
Having casual sexual relations frequently with different partners; indiscriminate in the choice of sexual partners.
))

AKA A EFFING SLUTTTTT

Yes, so Nelly is now a slut thanks to none other than timberland AND rap music. Yes i blame both b/c rap has been degrading women for years and timberland was the one to pick nelly up and make her put out this disgraceful "LOOSE" album

Loose ALSO means SLUT

GOD I HATE THE WORLD NOWADAYS

damn that rap music

So. Anyone like Nelly's new album?

I agree. I liked the old Nelly Furtado. Not the new Nelly Furtado.
"I'm like a bird" was a great song.

You know, there are many songs from Rock, punk rock or whatever that degrades women. rap just makes it so darn obvious. And no I don't blame any genre of music for turning Nelly into anything. No one put a gun on her head and said, "turn into a slut NOW". It was her choice and I respect that. True she was better when sang down to earth songs or something but you can't hate on types of music for what happened to her.

And to be honest, nelly sang sexual songs back then too. Right after I'm like a bird came out, her other song, "Turn Off the lights" released.... you can GUESS what it means

Hmm, I've talked about this a few times. It's ehh.. I know a whole buncha girls that go aroung singing promiscuous, but they have no idea WTH it means. It's kinda funny, actually.

Honestly. I actually like the "new" Nelly Furtado. Cmon 'Promiscuous Girl' is catchier then 'I'm Like A Bird'. I can't deny that rolleyes.gif.

She made that choice because everyone else is making that choice. Sex is in. Anything that has something to do with sex, people worship these days.

^x2 yeah and according to people who interviewed her back then back when she was earthy, she acted like a really cranky bitch. But now after promiscuous came out she's just.. mellowed out

But Kristina, it's not like she was FORCED to do it. Sure maybe it influenced her, but she still could've said no and stayed earthy like a lot of other artists.

Sure it's indecent of her, but man even back then she was a bit sexual. She's just a bit... more outward about it. But you know you shouldn't base judgments over a song.. I mean.. IT'S JUST A SONG. Not everyone has to be innocent, decent, etc That's how the world is and we can all deal with it. It's funny how we bitch at artists who changed instead of artists who started out as sluts.

She probably was forced by her management to do this different angle. The world is changing. And if you want to get somewhere, you have to change with it. At least in the music industry.

She could've said no and found a different management. Sure it's not as easy as it sounds but if she was true to her music then she wouldn't have changed.

And who knows? maybe she LIKES her new self.

I don't think that "Turn off the Lights" was intended to be about sex. It's about everyone being the same deep inside, and that we shouldn't judge based on apperances.

I don't like the new Nelly, but it was her choice. I don't blame Timbaland or rap music.

She won a grammy for her first album. "Loose" won't win her a damn thing.

well if you don't like unoriginality then just don't listen to her. Complaining about her is just like.. a waste of time.

What I don't get is Matt blaming Timberland and some other rap artists... blink.gif

Who the heck is Timberland? DO ya'll mean Justin Timberlake?!

Everyone has to reinvent their image to fit in with soceity's view of everything.

And why can't I complain? I have listened to her. She's sucks, IMO. I can say that. And its not a matter of me not liking unoriginality.

And I have nothing better to do with my time. =/

No, Kristina. Timbaland is a ridiculously well-established music producer and rap artist. If we meant Justin, we would say so. Two completely different people.

Timbaland (born Timothy Z. Mosley in Norfolk, Virginia on March 10, 1971) is an American hip hop and R&B record producer and rapper whose style influenced both genres, even helping to blur the distinction between the two. With partner Magoo, he is a member of hip-hop group Timbaland & Magoo.

Timbaland is similar to producers such as Phil Spector, Brian Eno, or Norman Whitfield in that he helped to redefine the sound of an entire genre of music with an immediately recognizable production style. The songs he produces feature unusual arrangements, sounds, and instrumentation, tied together by a trademark sense of space and rhythm. Like Spector and Whitfield, Timbaland's production sometimes overshadows the credited performer and becomes the actual "star" of the song. With songwriters Steve "Static" Garrett and childhood friend Missy Elliott, Timbaland has helped to create some of the most successful songs in modern pop music and urban music, including singles for Aaliyah, Ginuwine, Jay-Z, Justin Timberlake, Ludacris, and Nelly Furtado, among others.

Thanks.

But whatever. Matt asked if we liked Nelly's new album and I was stating my reason(s) why I didn't. So. Whatever. Moving on with life.
