Be patient; if people know how to solve your problem, they will post. However, you're pretty vague with your original post. What bar is it that won't show up? Do you mean the toolbar? Or..? Did you try rebooting your computer?

You probably have a lot of files then. Be patient and it will load.
If you want it to be faster, exit some applications from Task Manager.

I always have issues with Windows built-in programs like disk cleaner and defragmenter, they wouldn't work.

Try an alternative program like TuneUp Utilities 2006, it a program similar to disk cleaner and it gives you more flexibility on which files you want to delete. It also can clean out your registry and optimize it.

try leaving it on overnight, and don't do anything while you're waiting for it to load.

Now that's crazy..
First, try emptying your Recycle Bin and deleting your cookies.

Delete your cookies by using spyware software or:
C:\Documents and Settings\COMPUTERUSERNAMEHERE\Cookies
and delete them.

Then there'll be less things to scan through.

Try it like that.

I think they're a type of temporary files. Like when you open zip files from an email attatchment. I think.

I'm not sure of how to fix that, but you should just wait a while for it to load.

Deleting the cookies and emptying the recycle bin worked, right?

Oh yeah.
Or you could do in IE, Tools>Internet Options>Delete Cookies/Delete Temporary Files/Clear History.
Oh, yeah. Clearing history is probably the one thing I didn't mention. You should do that too.

NO! Don't delete them.. You still need them, right?
Just try leaving it for a day or two with the monitor off. It needs a long time to scan if it's been a long time since you last scanned.

Oh, yeah. When was the last time you used that scan (sucessfully)?

So system restore didn't work??
Wow. Isn't that like impossible?

Try scanning for viruses. That'll probably take a long time.
Oh, and definitely use the disk scan but leave it for a day or two, because it's been a while since your last sucessful scan. The postdata and internet files pile up, and so it takes a while. Just be patient and leave it for a while!

There may be a process or something in your registry that is lacking you to be successful with your scans.

http://www.merijn.org/files/hijackthis.zip

Download that program, Install it into its own folder ie. Make a folder for it C:\HJT < that would work..

Open it up and do Scan and save Logfile.

After its done scanning Notepad should open up, COPY whatever is in NotePad and paste it here. We'll take a look whats running on your comp, and see if any unwanted Things should be deleted.
