I guess what they meant is that. If you there's ever a time where you hold a lot of power, you need to be careful and take responsibility for your actions.

QUOTE(ichigofan @ Aug 12 2006, 3:11 PM) *
"alls fair in love and war"-everything is fair in love and war which means that to win in love and in war you have to do anything and by any means.. its sort of a machiavelli-ish idea

Ah...thank you.

QUOTE(Spiritual Winged Aura @ Aug 12 2006, 6:58 PM) *
exactly. OLD ENGLISH.

Shakespeare is NOT old English. This is:

Click to make bigger.

And like I said before, NOBODY EVER SAID the forbidden fruit that Eve took was an apple. NOBODY.

QUOTE
I cannot forecast to you the action of Russia. It is a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma; but perhaps there is a key. That key is Russian national interest.

I was thinking about this topic for some reason (coffee has yet to kick in), and I found this site:
Meanings and Origins of Phrases, Sayings and Idioms

_smile.gif

I'd be interested to know if any quotes people are confused about are actually in there. (No, I'm not advertising. This solely pertains to the topic at hand and is being referenced as a, well, reference). wink.gif

According to that site, "the apple of my eye" has nothing to do with Adam, Eve, or the Garden of Eden. So I've gotta say it.

I told you so.

It's an interesting site, though. I think I'll go browse.

Mmm its a religious reference. Eve went for the fruit she couldn't have, which was an apple. So the phrase refers to something you can't have but desire.
