stealing, jocking, theft, copyright infringement.

it's all been a pretty big problem here on createblog. tons of graphics and layouts have been created using images from sites such as photobucket (from random peoples' albums), deviantart, threadless, naked&angry, artists' websites, etc. all copyrighted material. material that is not stock material. and taking complete credit for it.

and i don't really care if there is a thread already about this or if it was mentioned in another thread. because. well. i just don't feel like going through and responding with something that will never be read, bringing back a thread that is long dead, or simply watching people talk about it and not do anything.

i think that while the admin and mods are doing their little "house cleaning", they should REALLY concentrate on removing submissions that contain stolen images. because this site should not condone these things.

i also think that a field should be added to submission forms for credit giving. even if what someone used IS stock photography or otherwise free-to-use material, credit should be given. and i believe that if people were to see an entire space dedicated to giving such credit, they would tend to do it more.

this website should be fair and follow copyright rules in all areas. because i've seen plenty of people complaining about other websites "jocking" from createblog. why not stop being hypocrites and set an example for such sites?

It has been brought up yes, and there isnt really anything the staff can do unless the graphics/layouts you speak of are PMed to a staff member to be removed, but you have to show proof.

Also, I am a huge threadless fan, so all threadless layouts have been removed (unless there are ones on the xangas? im not sure)

But yes, any layouts you see with jocked images, please PM one of the design staff (myspace, xanga, livejournal, design) With proof, and it will be removed. happy.gif

You act as though we're allowing copyrighted images on this site on purpose. Do you know how hard it is to keep track of all this and furthermore, prove that it's stolen? This is why, currently, our only is if someone PM's us and proves that it was stolen. And it's not like we aren't doing anything. We've been really busy on the subject and trying to come up with ideas to put a stop to it. Until then, we're relying on you guys.

Thanks for the input though. flowers.gif Trust me, we've been on the issue and continue to do so. happy.gif

I really like this idea. Hopefully, it'll be something that will come along with cB4.

But there is something wrong with that option.

Not everybody uses other people's images, a lot of people make their own. So, if we did add that, it would have to say "Optional" on it. Get what I'm saying?

What's wrong with people saying what they made is their own? I don't think anyone who submits something to cB (sadly to say) makes all the brushes/textures/patterns/etc. and takes all the photos themselves when using it on a layout. We just have to trust that people will tell the truth.

By leaving it optional, I doubt everyone would actually fill out that field. We already have people not following simple rules, like choosing the proper category or putting in tags. We just have to stress the fact that credit should be given for everything that is used.

[Hmm. I should do that for all my past submissions.]

Exactly why optional wouldn't be a good idea. But it's basically the only thing we can do. Because I, and you, know people do make their own images, even if they didn't make the brush/texture/pattern themself. Like the design staff/official designers. They use photoshop/psp to make their images. So would they credit the site that they got the brush/whatever from?

But there is still the possibility that the person made it completely by scratch. It's a low one, but it's still a possibility.

Even if we did have the Credits option, people would still be able to put, "made completely by me", which, may or may not be true in different cases.

^ Yea some people would put made by them, but the credits option can stop some people from claiming things as their own . No one's saying that the credit field will stop everyone from using images not made by them and stuff. But it is a good start and it can stop some people too.

I also think that , like use said Janette, if they use brushes from other sites, and they want to give credit in that field they should. I don't see anything wrong with them crediting brush sites. Or any other sites that helped put it together.

The credits field doesn't mean they didn't make it . It's giving credit to their resources. So if you made the image, then you made it. But you can still give credit. No one's saying like, you can't make your own images. Its just saying that if you used something from another site then place the credit.

The goal is to help prevent stealing, and jocking. Not stop people from submitting their own creations.

ok, ur thinking/ going to add a credit section to prevent layouts using copyrighted images
on their layouts

ok what about images from large companies who make games, movies etc.
what happens if we use images from them? everything goes into that section?
i personally like that idea alot and look forward to it coming out soon

i mean all my layouts i give credit to whos image and whos brush i use
all images...

and i think that people who make their layouts and don't credit anyone should get a warning regardless if 'everything' in that layout is 'theirs'
i know what its like to have ur images stolen... and it isn't a lovely feeling...

and i've seen a few layouts who are using images from DA with out credit...

I think its good to add a credit section period. Brushes, images, all that stuff could and should be included. Images from games, movies, etc can have credit given for the use of them. I mean even if the image is from google, they can easily type google in the credit section.

You want us to give warnings to all people that don't credit? Thats everyone. . Some people do and some don't . For layouts especially. We can't just start warning people because they don't credit. When you think about it, you know the first thing their going to say is "Well it wasn't written anywhere. Its not in the rules...." Etc. Warnings for credit, shouldn't be done. UNLESS the credit section wasn't an optional field. (IF WE GET ONE)

Alot of us know how it feels to get things, stolen. Whether its images, or graphics. Its not much we can do about it.

ok
maybe the warning thing is a bit extreme...
but i guess we can start now with crediting whos image we use
spread the word?

Okay, I download tons of brushes. From everywhere. I dont remember half the places.

Same with textures and patterns. Yes, I have most of them sorted into folders under authors name, but, a lot of it I dont have sorted.

Now would it be bad if I made an all out general resources list, my personal list, with all of the sites I use, and just link to that everytime?

Oh, no, it wasn't meant sarcastically.

I meant it as, can I make my own list of all the places I get my stuff from and just link to that everytime I submit something.

But I was being serious about not remembering where I got half of my stuff.

Yea, lists are better for people. I know I would have to use a list on another site and then just link it too.

Janette - The admins have to do it, I believe. And this is just an idea right now..

Okay. So basically, what you're saying is:

People need to start crediting for where they got their brushes/textures/patterns/screencaps/whatever the heck it is. Hopefully with CB4 there will be a credit form field thing.

And, basically, any picture of any celebrity ever used in a layout, yeah, those are totally copyrighted by the photographer, or whoever holds the rights. I doubt some teenager has the rights to them, though.

Okay, its been brought up by a lot of people.

I dont know if people were here to remember the big catastrophe of the Copyright Infringment thread brought up ages ago, but yes. That was a Catastrophe. With a capital C.

Its just part of internet life.

it's naive to think that Oh yeah, no ones going to steal this. Blah blah blah.

But I would be willing to make my resource list and post it whenever I submit anything.

okay. i know that admin/mods are very busy and that they cannot keep track of every submission. i just think that some of the things, particularly graphics, are very obviously images that have not been created by anyone on createblog.

but anyway. since i understand the time constraints and pressures of the admin here on cb, i took some of my time to go through some of the sections. let's start with graphics.

i went through every single page of graphics. and here are the submissions i found that were stolen/jocked/whatever. i'm sure there are lots more. but these were the ones i absolutely KNEW where the originals came from.

(i made this list in editpad as i went along, and i really don't feel like making all the links...well, links. so. copy and paste, yeah? mellow.gif

http://www.createblog.com/graphics/download.php?id=1162
taken from: http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/30259794/

and besides those, i found several submissions that were submitted 2 & three times. so, i'm assuming that no one here on cb made them and that they are from somewhere else and that no one had permission to take credit for them as their own work.

this: http://www.createblog.com/graphics/download.php?id=3491

and then! there are the ones that i cannot track down the originals of, but i KNOW they were not created by anyone (that i KNOW of) here on cb. yet, here they are! submitted, accepted, and being stolen.

Mmkay, thanks for the links. I don't know whether I should contact the "creator" or just go ahead and reject it, so I'll wait for an admin/more experienced staff's input.
