It makes sense Radhika. But if you were saved you wouldn't need sadness to need be happy. All you would need is God. But you wouldn't know what happiness really was if you didn't have sadness to provide a contrast. QUOTE Well, you'd be content with yourself and your lifestyle. I think you would know what happiness was, because you'd be happy all the time. Maybe happy's not the right word but content and pleased. Not necessarily. Let me use an example: Let's say that you live in a perfect home with a loving family. You get everything you need & more. You wouldn't know or believe that you were a truly happy, lucky person if you didn't see homeless people walking the streets everyday. |

I felt the emotion and the satisfaction, but how are you sure that heaven can REALLY offer that?

^ x3 Right. No one really knows what heaven's like. But because of our faith, we read the Bible and believe that heaven's going to be like that.

^ It's written in the Bible. Radhika, you've already felt it on earth haven't you? Felt "it"? What is "it"? Happiness? (Sorry, kind of slow, lol.) Also, just because it's written in the Bible doesn't make it automatically true. There's no empirical proof to back it up. (But let's not debate that here.) |

I meant sadness.
"He will wipe tears from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away." Revelations 21 ^"would you say that from experience" All the proof you have is faith. Christianity itself is based on faith. |

I have experienced sadness in my opinion, yes.
But there's no proof that there will be a magical man in the sky to come and whisk away all our problems. It doesn't sound practical at all, Sally. So people will continue to suffer and have those little moments of happiness. Then, they will see how truly lucky they are. We need suffering & happiness in a way to show us that we are lucky or unlucky. |

But that's exactly what faith in God is. Yen didn't state whether or not she believed in God, she's just debating the point of whether going to Heaven or not is worth it. So people will continue to suffer and have those little moments of happiness. Then, they will see how truly lucky they are. We need suffering & happiness in a way to show us that we are lucky or unlucky. Heaven is much more than that, you won't need sadness to feel happiness. You also won't need to feel "lucky" or "unlucky" because it won't even matter anymore. The happiness there isn't as...material, I guess. It will be a lot different. It's only a matter of two decisions at the end: You can suffer forever, or you can live an eternal happiness. |

But what I'm trying to say is suffering and happiness go together. The world will continue to suffer even if you are in Heaven. So even if you are there, wouldn't it be far more fulfilling to alleviate the suffering on earth instead of creating another world for people who "deserve" happiness?

Happiness is just a lack of sadness. You don't need it to be happy. Plus, God never said you were going to be happy, He just said that there would be no more pain, suffering, and mourning. So yes, you can still alleviate suffering on earth while you are there. However, after you die, it's based on a matter of your choice.

honestly noone really knows what "heaven" is like... in my opinion the afterlife is what u make of it just like in this life.. If u make ure life a personal hell then it will be. so when u pass away ure afterlife will be full of "sins" if u wanted it to be =d

I realized something. I love the real world (not the show, but..the real..world). It's exciting and it's beautiful in its own way. I don't want to go to heaven. In heaven you can't masturbate, have sex, get turned on, play videogames, do things that are sinfully... amusing and entertaining. So I love the world. My friend says if you go to heaven you won't want those things. But why would I not want them? they feel good, I want them! Would you rather exchange your painful and yet beautiful life in the real world for an emotionally numb nirvana in heaven? I'm sorry if I don;t make sense. But.. ![]() My view of heaven is you could do whatever you want. If you couldnt do what you wanted then it wouldnt be heaven. Except sex and masturbation by the time you get to heaven you'll be old and wont know the meaning of the words anymore. |

But do you have to know you're happy, or how well-off you are to still be content? The person you described would still be happy, even if they didn't know or believe it. You can still have the feeling of happiness without putting a name to it, without describing it, without comparing and contrasting it...It's a feeling. But if you don't know or believe that you are happy, you won't feel it. You have to believe that you are happy in order to feel it. |

DANGIT I MISSED IT WHEN YOU MADE THE TOPIC. sux0rz Right. Heaven is so much more of a place than earth will ever be. You won't need things to satisfy yourself because satisfaction is already there. You won't feel the need to make yourself happy because Heaven is eternal happiness. I'm surprised by how much you know about Heaven. Hmm.. do they have angels there too? My point is, how can you worry about something that you don't even know for sure that it exists? Nobody knows what happens when you die.. for all we know, we could be reborn and live again (I'd love that). |

i know what you mean, i've thought about that myself sometimes. i have come to believe that there is no real heaven. not in the sense that it is a place full of angels and puffy white clouds. i think heaven is those moment during your life time when you truely feel alive. when you're with your friends, when you fall in love, when you have children of your own. believing in some form of after life really just helps people get through the hard parts of life...
but that is just my opinion |

Perhaps an analogy is needed.
You remember being a little kid right? When you got your first bike you might have thought "Wow, this is the greatest thing in the world! I love my bike! There can't possibly be anything better than riding my bike!" But when you become a teenager you then realize that hey, cars are pretty cool. And then when you get your driver's license, your love for your bike has now been replaced by your love for your automobile and the freedom it gives you. I love videogames too., those that know me here can tell you that. But I've realized that being in union with God the Father in Heaven absolutely beats playing videogames any day. So much that I want to resist anything that would take me from a state of grace. Jesus Christ could have had anything he wanted, but endured a death on a cross just so that we might have a chance to go to heaven. He's offered himself to us and continues to do so every time the Eucharist is offered. You can avoid mortal sin and offer up your suffering in the hope that one day you can go to Heaven. |

But the point for Christians is that they believe Heaven exists. Again, the point of Christianity is faith. |

(okay that was pointless...) mmm. well. as i said before, if my image of a christian heavan is correct, i don't want in. Not that i owuld get in though, so that wouldn't be a problem. |
