Hahaha, I think Sandra turned that into a spamfest.

And I suppose that would be spam because there's no real content to it. It's just someone going on about their balls of fire. Even so, I'm still unsure. There's still no set definition on what spam is.

^ OKAY HERE WE GO!

Something that has content to it.

I think the definition of spam is whether the content is worth discussing or not.

I'm trying to come up with a good definition.

I'd have to agree with Seon Ho on this. I can't count how many times we've had this conversation.

I really don't like how people view the mods as power-hungry or indecisive, when it's really very difficult to control the forums around here. What with all the people that try to make things difficult.

Mods are not all "AY! Ah am a mod, and YOU WILL RESPECT MAH AUTHORITAH!"

Sorry, I just had to urge to steal a catchphrase from Cartman. wink.gif

By the way, forum rules, as far as I can remember, has not been updated in a while. I think the mods should get around the updating official stuff once in a while.

My definition of spam is:
  • One or two random word posts (i.e., "lol, haha" in a Relationships topic)
  • Stuff not pertaining to the topic (i.e., "South Park is the bestest show ever, no?" in a topic about, say, Myspace codes)
  • Chatting --> Some should be tolerated, if it relates to the topic, but chatroom-like talking is just annoying and a waste of bandwidth. Use the chatroom. That's what it's there for.
  • Blatant ignorance of forum/topic rules (i.e., in Member Photos there's a rule that you must thumb pictures that stretch out the forums, and if you keep doing it after you're warned, it should be considered spam, or warning-worthy)
  • Copying and pasting stuff (i.e., in Introductions, copying and pasting "Welcome to cB, and enjoy your stay!" for each thread)
  • Repetitive topics (Clubs topics. It's pretty obvious when they're serious clubs and when they're just spammy, chattering clique-y clubs)
  • Random topics that no one will be able to reply to in a productive manner (I like Kristina's examples, they make sense to me)
The list, I'm sure, goes on.

It would seem Gigi's list sums most of it up.

Yay! Haha, thank you, but you ALL need to get on this backstage! Seriously. See, people get their own definitions but you all need to discuss it and agree on your own definition so that EVERY mod has to follow it. Otherwise, we're all back the the same old problem all over again.

And thank you Gigiopolis. That's a good start and I like your definition. I hope you can get all the mods to get in on this and agree to a definition you all have to follow. happy.gif

I can't think of anything right now but when I do I will put it up here for sure.

Oh yeah I don't think the mods are power hungry or anything like that. I like how they are doing their job. It just seem like different mods has a different deffinition of spam. (refering to the first part of Gigi's post)

^ Thanks a lot. _smile.gif It is important to us members, and I know some of you guys think we nag, but really it is important haha.

I hope it doesn't go down the "We've discussed this before" road. I hope you guys really try and discuss this and come to a fair definition you can all agree on and go by.

I think the truly commited members should form a campeign of some sort...make a banner to put in people's sigs. Then all the "committee" members can go around telling people to sign a petition. Hahh. That'd be cool...

Wow, I really like that idea! It'd make it eaisier on the mods too. I know it's hard for you guys trying to please everyone. You should see what the mods think of that idea. I'd be all for it. happy.gif

I think what she means is that certain serious active members should get together and have ideas about what they want based on their ideas and the ideas of other members and sign petitions. Then, once they have enough signatures, they present that to the mods and if the mods see enough support, they'll consider it.

I guess it's kind of like PDA meetings and meetings at town centers where the community presents their ideas/concerns to the committee and the committee puts together a petition and presents it to the county government.

Nah, I wasn't talking about you guys. I'm referring to some other members, but I might be wrong about them.

Also, is the forum rules thread the ONLY thread on here that has a definition of spam(a poor one, at that)?

If that's the case, then this'll just be a matter of updating the thread with more specifics and detail.
