so, i've heard a lot about girls who are self- concious and have an eating disorder, but i've never met a guy who had an eating disorder. (in fact, i dont even know any guys who pay attention to their weight) so are there any males on cb/do any guys that you know have eating disorders?

My friend, Grant, used to suffer from bulimia. He even used to throw up in the middle of the cafeteria by putting his finger down his throat to be excused from school.

It's usually overlooked, but there are a lot of anorexic/bulimic males. Especially in the dance/modeling community. It can get really scary when you go for an audition and the bathroom reeks of vomit

yeah, cause i've watched shows on oprah, tyra, etc etc etc about EDs, and they're all females. (not to offend anyone, but another thing that i noticed was that they're all caucasian too. i have yet to see an anorexic african american) they're never about males with EDs

Girls are usually a little more open about it. Maybe a male suffering from that might be a bit too shocking to the public?

I think some male wrestlers suffer from eating disorders like that and I personally think it's sad the way some athletes are pressured.

males do suffer from EDs but the largely majority of males don't suffer from EDs that make them drastically skinny. similiar to how females are pressured to be skinny skinny, males are pressured to have giant muscles/toned. while anoxeria and bulimia is still the most significant EDs, males are more suspectible to exercise bulimia where they exercise far beyond their caloric intake.

=/ it's sad to know that just a few hundred years back, a little meat on your bones was viewed as attractive on women and a symbol of success for men. and now, people are destroying their lives to be skinny.

Yeah there's a huge number of men who are bulimic. Most of the bulimic men start out as anorexic men. 5-10% of Anorexic patients are men but doctors fear they go under reported

I read the issue of newsweek that talked about anorexia/bulimia. It turns out that there are alooottttt of guys with eating disorders, for many reasons.

I didn't know that either O_O.

ive seen guys with eating disorders on tv..at my school its all about being big and muscular.

but i think its more accepted for girls to be concerned about their weight. guys are just supposed to care about muscle. so if they do have a disorder they wont tell anyone at all.

Yeah there was this special on Oprah that my mom was watching, and I heard Oprah say something like "Let me just first tell you that you are the first homegirl that I've ever seen that has suffered from anorexia"

OMGOSH, I still cannot stop laughing about Tyra's episode where she dressed up in the fat suit, and then came back on the show and CRYED, and the actual fat people were like comforting her, telling her it'll be okay. I was just thinkign wtf!?

Yes, eating disorders among men are often overlooked because it's not as... Expected?

I knew a kid that who said he was anorexic, but yeah...

I personally don't know any males that are bulimic. But I have seen some guys walk around that are extremly thin, but they may just be skinny.
