Therefore, here we are, a gathering of all left-minded people who are interested in political discussion. ![]() As a member of this club, you will be expected to: - Represent the members of this club and other liberals by presenting your ideas in a tactful manner. We want to smash the stereotypes surrounding liberals by proving that we are capable of debating in a mature manner. - Help to lead newcomers posting in the debate forum. Not only do we want it to be more active, but our hope is to get other people to see the way things are flowing and follow suit. - Promote fair, intelligent, debate by researching your arguments before posting them. In order to join, you do not have to share ALL of the ideas held by left-wingers, but if you find yourself to be more on the right side of the spectrum, this isn't the place for you. However, it would be ideal if any conservatives on the forum come together and make their own club. Annd there you go. Be warned, I will be pretty much absent from this forum, so you guys have at it. >.<;; |

Jesus doesn't do politics.
But he's a closet liberal. ![]() --- Other than that, here's a compromise. Dani can be president, James can be VP, and Sammi can have my secretarial position. |

Feh!? Wait, where was I in this compromise?
You wouldn't even have a president if I didn't mention it. Whatthehell. I'm the member in here who's been a liberal in the debate forum for the longest time. It only makes sense. I've been working for the CB Liberals for over two years. Come on. |

Well, Sammi...
James was being extremely stubborn about being president as well. If we made either of you president, there would be drama. So by Dani being president, we've (hopefully) eliminated that. edit: Actually, it's kind of sad how seriously everyone is taking this. Let's not have positions at all. That way, the entire group can pick up the slack. And that, my friends, is true liberalism. |

I figured since I did make the club you two wouldn't mind sharing the title.. Eh. Leadership, to an extent, is just that, a title. I want this to be mostly a group effort anyway. =\
Eh, so no arguing. ![]() edit; Radhika, that was my original idea. If that's what everyone wants we can eliminate the positions altogether. You know, actually, for now, that's what I'll do. We'll make important decisions later after we've discussed them. |

I will start.
Que pasa? Me llamo Radhika. Tengo 14 anos, y decidia era un liberal cuando tenia 10 o 11 anos. Que joven, no? But really. I took a political compass test, and it put me in the left-leaning area. And I continued to follow those beliefs and started to align with them more and more as the years went along. Liberalism makes sense to me, and I agree with the stances that liberals take on a lot of issues, especially social ones. |

for the record, i do not support the removal of positions. i know that will shock many to the very core, but do try to bare with me.
*** I have two socially liberal parents, which obviously shaped my opinions when i was younger, and as such didnt feel particularly 'liberal', but rather just normal. However, when i moved back to england, i went to (and still attend) a hugely conservative private school, where my views were very much the minority. I therefore found myself challenged on a daily basis, particularly on issues such as civil liberties, animal rights, and gay rights. I gravitated towards the school's debating team as an outlet for my views, and have been able to particiapte in several formal debates, making my way to captain this conming year, and winning individual commendations in several competitions as well as team victories, for instance being named 'best individual' in the region in the Debating Matters competition. Furthermore, my liberalism has been heightened this year in terms of politcal awareness after i studied british politics this year, and will continue with american politics this coming year. from that, i have become a member of several pressure groups including Liberty Human Rights and Friends Of The Earth with additional volunteer work for Amnesty international, as well as joining the Liberal Democrat party recently, and i hope to be able to work as a campaigner in future elections. I have also taken the cliched 'political comapss' style tests, and was placed as a cross between hilary clinton (i SWEAR i nearly typed hilarry duff there) and ghandi, as well as being the most radical person on either side of the spectrum to take a test which all politics students were given to complete, obviously on the side of liberalism. admittedly i havent participated actively in the debate forum at cb recently, although i have in the last couple of days, and hope to increase it if organizations (lol) such as this increase the level of debate on the forum. *** oh, and i will make agressive whiney sounds at dani if i dont win. = ) |

I'm not a liberal, but I vote Sammi, lol. I don't do the straight ticket, haha.
Mind if someone makes a Conservative thread? I don't want to "steal your idea" or anything. I'm pretty much 50-50. I see good in both parties. What good is left in them anyway. ![]() |

thinga about the politcal compass irritate me, for instance
QUOTE Those with the ability to pay should have the right to higher standards of medical care . well, i believe that people with mor emoney SHOULD use private health care, but not because it is some sort of 'right', but rather to take the weight off of the NHS so that those with less income can be provided with optimum health care. i suppose that is what i get for taking a test designed for americans... sigh. what also bothers me is that people take those tests and answer in order to get the response they want. for instance, to answer 'strongly agree' on the left, when maybe they mean agree, so they can say that they look really liberal, or whatever. oh, and my friend took that and got told she was darth vader. it was funny. |

Oh, hm, I think this is a different polical compass things than I've taken before.
James, why would someone try to make themselves look more liberal? I'm actually honest, because I'm genuinely interested in seeing what I get. Last time, I was actually surprised at just how liberal my results were. QUOTE Our race has many superior qualities, compared with other races. What the hell? Who is this "us"? Yeah, this is definitely not the same one I took before. I prefered the way the results were shown on the other one. I'll have to find the link. Economic Left/Right: -4.38 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -5.64 Here's the other link. I like this one better. http://www.okcupid.com/politics |

QUOTE what also bothers me is that people take those tests and answer in order to get the response they want. for instance, to answer 'strongly agree' on the left, when maybe they mean agree, so they can say that they look really liberal, or whatever. I know what you mean, sometimes people get it in their heads that they're liberal and want to try to one-up each other by proving that they're "more liberal" - so they cheat on the test. Stupid, in my opinion. Most people aren't going to be so far left they're falling over on EVERY SINGLE issue. The tests aren't always very accurate, either. Some of the questions are kind of vague, it just barely scratches the surface, really. It's fun to take them, though. XD PS I'd like it if we all put something in our signatures so we'd be recognized throughout the debate forum as members of this club. It's not mandatory, of course. |
