It might not be South Africa for the World Cup 2010 now .. i heard it was something to do with the fact that their stadiums and grass weren't good enough.. so it's not good to play at.

Anyway whereever it is .. should be awesome.

CAPE TOWN, South Africa (AP) -- South Africa will be ready to host the World Cup in 2010, organizers insisted Tuesday, seeking to dispel worries over transportation, accommodations and stadiums.

Danny Jordaan, head of the organizing committee, said FIFA had already given $10 million to South Africa to rebuild its national soccer team, which failed to qualify for this year's tournament in Germany.

South Africa hopes to hire former Brazil coach Carlos Alberto Parreira, who quit after his team was eliminated by France in the quarterfinals.

FIFA has also contributed $10 million to go to a new headquarters for the South African Football Association. This serves as an advance payment of the $20 million profit guaranteed to the host federation, Jordaan said.

"We are relaxed," Jordaan told a parliamentary committee debating the legislative framework for 2010. "We should not demoralize ourselves unnecessarily."

South Africa is the first African nation to be awarded the event and knows the pride of the continent is at stake. But there has been a flurry of speculation that the tournament could be moved, with Australia mentioned as one possible alternative.

Michael Palmer, FIFA's top official in South Africa, dismissed such talk as "nonsense." He said world soccer's governing body is confident that South Africa will overcome problems associated with the lack of public transportation and come up with enough accommodations for visitors.

The government has earmarked about $710 million for building and renovating 10 stadiums, and another $1.2 billion for upgrades to airports, roads and railway lines.

Cape Town last week gave the go-ahead to a planned stadium in the city center, but said the project was subject to financing from the central government.

Some 350,000 foreign visitors are expected to come for the monthlong tournament. Jordaan said the tournament should create 129,000 jobs in an economy battered by high unemployment. He said it would lead to an additional $1 billion in tax revenues.

Got that ^^ from Yahoo Sports. So, I guess it really is South Africa. _smile.gif

Yup, both countries.
But it's not like you can't take a drive. Besides, once you're in Europe, you don't have to show your passport everytime you enter a different country.
