QUOTE
Michael Russell, 12, of Fort Campbell, Kentucky, collapsed after riding the Rock 'n' Roller Coaster ride at Disney-MGM theme park in Orlando, Florida, Thursday morning, Sgt. Carlos Torres said. (Watch the details of what happened after the roller coaster stopped -- 2:39)

Russell's father began administering CPR and was later aided by a Disney assistant, but the boy was not responsive. Russell was then transported by ambulance to Celebration Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Rock 'n' Roller Coaster re-opened Friday morning.

"Walt Disney World engineers and ride system engineers completed a thorough inspection of the attraction overnight and found it to be operating properly," said Disney World spokeswoman Kim Prunty in a statement.

Another park spokesman, Jacob DiPietre, said, "Our thoughts and prayers remain with the Russell family in the wake of their son's passing."

Disney boasts of the ride on its Web site: "Zoom from zero to 60 mph with the force of a supersonic F-14, take in high-speed loops and turns synchronized to a specially recorded Aerosmith soundtrack and zip through Tinseltown in the biggest, loudest limo you've ever seen."

It adds: "The 3,400-foot-long track is more than a half mile of sudden accelerations, dips, loops and twists and turns."

More details...

My dad brought this up today, and I had no clue about it until then.
Poor kid.. sad.gif

I've also read stories about a forty-nine-year-old woman and a four-year-old dying as well in Disney World all within a year, I believe. sad.gif

Poor kid. RIP sad.gif.
But, I don't think the boy was in perfect health to get on the ride. He had heart problems. That could've been the reason why he died. I agree with starlette.

I've never been to Disney World. I only go to Six Flags. :s

yea, I went on that ride like twice. But I remember like right after i left disney world some kid died on the mission space ride as well.

Really Its most peoples own fault in why they died unless they had no clue they had any problems, because more than likely they tell you outside the ride if you have any of the listed problems that you shouldn't get on the ride, and people died because they had one of those problems.

That's terrible...was he in good health when he got on the ride? sad.gif

Man...this is why I don't like roller coasters. ermm.gif

No he had something wrong with his heart. He died in the middle of the ride. The ride didn't kill him.

Awh that's so sad!

But that's my favorite ride. It's so cool.

it's my favorite ride too! but he didn't know (or his family) didn't know he had a heart problem? because in all of the lines over there in disney world they have signs like every 6 feet giving warnings and health requirements...

don't be scared sweetreat91, as long as you dont have a heart problem their rides are pretty safe. i'll be in florida, too in 2 weeks.

Oh that's horrible. But it's better than this tragedy that happened in Great America a few years ago.

Apparently, on one of their free fall rides, the operator urged teens to not fully buckle their harnesses down so it'd be more exciting. One kid did so, and when the free fall thing...came down, he flew out of his seat, and died.

^ a little boy died on that ride, too. again, health problems i believe.

i went on that ride and it was kinda weird because when i was like strapped in and stuff there's this thing that says "don't move your head left to right because you may become disoriented." wacko.gif (something along those lines ha)
