i think its stupid to distribute condoms in schools, i swear its illegal to have sex under 16 isnt it?!?! so why are they encouraging it, its practically telling them, hey kids have sex, its good for you, but dont forget a condom!! i mean its ridiculous! and when teens do have sex underage, they dont get arrested or nothing!! whats the frickin point of there being a law if the frickin laws bein encouraged to do!?!?

^well, just because it's a law not to have sex before you're 16, that isn't going to stop teens from having sex, is it?
i don't think condoms should be distributed in school. not because it'll "encourage sex," or deviate kids from abstinence, but because if you're going to have sex, you should have the maturity and capacity to haul your ass to the nearest convenience store and buy a box without feeling like a total boob. school is a place of learning, not a planned parenthood clinic. instead of giving out condoms, school should have comprehensive sex education programs that objectively describe all types of birth control, but also stress abstinence. these programs should state that condoms are available at any store, and that you should go out and buy them yourself. financially disabled? there are numerous places that give out free birth control. school should not be one of them, however. |

^ you made a really good point about how school is place of learning and not a clinic of any kind. though since it's a place of learning, they should teach you about those things.
i think schools should really teach sex ed (i think some of you guys might have had this) but i've only had this class in the 7th grade for like a week. and now i'm in high school, and when i have questions i go online to do research, and i dont want my mom to be pestering me just because i'm curious. but if i had already learned the answers in school.. well then. but to answer this posts' main purpose, i don't think there really is anything wrong with giving condoms out in school. the main concern i see is who would distribute it (seeing as i dont have a school nurse... |

Ok, I hope this is PG-13 but this isn't really nasty or supposed to be, but the question in the matter is: Should condoms be distributed at school? Why or why not? (i.e.: to prevent pregnancies, STDs, etc.) What do you think? Either way condoms distributed or not, kids are going to have sex. So yes. And most kids should be intelligent enough to realize that just because a school gives out condoms doesn't mean "oh i should go have sex". |

Most kids nowadays aren't so "intelligent". By the way, am I the only one who finds the phrase "kids having sex" sounding just.. nauseating? |

^Yes.
Kids will have sex either way, no matter who agrees or disagrees, so there shouldn't be a reason not to have safe sex. |

^Yes. Kids will have sex either way, no matter who agrees or disagrees, so there shouldn't be a reason not to have safe sex. So using "kids having sex" doesn't bother you? Wow. How about just no sex? The point is, if they're too ashamed to buy condoms on their own, they're not ready to have sex. |

My school is anti sex entirely. Even though we have about 12 pregnant girls. Teenagers natural instinct is to rebel and go out on your own, so take my school for example. You tell them not to, they'll have even more reason to do it.
However, I still don't think they should be given out. I don't think school should touch on sex at all. That's not why we're there. I stress the statement made by rawtheekuh "school is a place of learning, not a planned parenthood clinic." I like her idea about the comprehensive sex education programs. My idea that school shouldn't talk about sex at all will never be possible because of so many parents slacking in their responsibilities. Somebody has to pick up their slack. Unfortunately, it's the public school system |

I don`t think they should. A lot of parents would start complaining.. they'd only be complaining probably because they are too scared to even think about :gasp: their kids having sex. oh no. QUOTE And you believe this is going to happen? Haha, I think not. Most kids nowadays aren't so "intelligent". By the way, am I the only one who finds the phrase "kids having sex" sounding just.. nauseating? Yeah maybe the word "kids", let's substitute with "teens".. You're right maybe they aren't intelligent, but the ones who are smart enough to use a condom shouldn't have to take that chance.. and to the person who said they should go buy them themselves, they're probably afraid it's likely someone they know might see, or find out, but if there was an anonymous way to distribute them at school? I don't know, like I said they will have sex, and if the school has a chance to make it safer if it IS happening then go ahead and do it regardless of what parents have to say about it. |
