because a fool and his money are easily parted. lmao. Yeah, I haven't read the whole form. I'll get to that later. Here's my general outlook on "Rap". This doesn't concern hip-hop or any other genres of... um, whatever those are genres of. This topic is about rap, so quit mentioning the others. Ok, rap music requires little to no talent. Anyone can walk into a studio and have a computer make some blips and bloops and rap background sounds and talk real fast into a microphone. Even I can rap pretty well. Of course, you listed the usual references as to why rap really does suck, so I guess I won't go there. It pretty much speaks for itself. Now don't go thinking I'm just one of those rocker punks who just hates rap. Well, I am but I can assure you that my opinion not biased. I used to only listen to rap and as it grew in the music industry, I began to despise it. These artists like 50 Cent and Snoop Dog have just ruined rap. That's why I don't listen to it anymore. You can get mad at me all you want but I'll bet I, or just about anyone can rap as good as 50 Cent, but he sure as hell can't rock out like I can. |

Blips and bloops? Siiike. I think rap beats as a whole are way more complicated then rock beats or pop beats. What do you mean "talking real fast"? Rap is done in different variations of rhymes. Cool, I was hoping you'd be the one to respond BrownSugar Ok, so say you're correct (which you're not). Is 50 Cent the one on the computer making all the "complicated" blips and bloops? Nooo. So, when I read a poem out loud, that's not also in rhyme? Yeesss. It's still only talking. Maybe if I read it real fast it'll be good enough to make the next Snoop Dog album. Don't forget your bitches and hoes! I'm just playing. I did that purely to irritate you |

Rap is more complicated than most people give it credit for. Let me try my best to explain the intricacies of rap music. But first, let me explain my standpoint. I absolutely agree with what most of you are saying - the rap music that you are exposed to IS redundant, it IS basic, and it DOES sell mainly because of the beat. However, this is how I distinguish between a good rapper, and a bad rapper.
Punchlines. Every since rap music has come into existance, there has always been an 'I'm better than you' mentality, and most rappers use punchlines to express that. A punchline is composed of a 'filler line', which is the line used to 'set up' the actual 'punch'. A good punchline involves, but is not limited to, creativity and wordplay and it is in most cases a simile or comparison. An example of this is JR Writer saying, "Look right as a G, damn it you bastards // You couldn't be nicer than me if you took anger management classes." If you study it closely, you will notice how the world 'nicer' has two meanings, to be nice as in 'friendly' and to be nice in 'excellent'. Also, Damn~It~You~Bastards rhymes syllable for syllable with Management~Classes. This is called a multi. A multi is short for multi-syllable rhyme. Some artists who are good at this include Fabolous, Eminem, and Joe Budden. A multi syllable rhyme is when every single syllable in end of two lines rhyme. Most women, they don't want to kiss~you~unless // Your in a mitchell~and~ness, or you push~through~the~best // When I speak, I make sure every issue's~addressed // Before they twist~you~and~mess and try to diss~you~and~press // And most cops want to frisk~you~I~guess // They figure rap stars always move with a pistol~and~vest // Another thing is rhyme schemes. Most of the rappers you are generalizing as 'garbage' rhyme with very basic rhyme schemes. "blah blah blah blah blah rhyme // blah blah blah blah rhyme", only the last word of each line rhymes. Rapper Louis Logic demonstrates a complex rhyme scheme in his song, "Street Smarts". Cause when I ring the alarm the hooligans wanna fight for me // and bring the things that'll make a calm night stormy // Quite sorry if y'all didn't understand it, I'm at once demanded and underhanded// So when ya stash goes missin' from ya man's crib // you'll be scratchin' your lid sayin', "I betcha someone planned it // See how the coordinating colors rhyme with each other, it is not the typical basic rhyme scheme, but a more complex one. So when you are generalizing rap as basic elementary school poetry, pay more attention next time to what rhymes with what. What I'm trying to say is, most of you judge rap music on subject matter and degrading lyrics. That's fair, and I agree with you. But when you are judging rap music solely on the character and subject matter of these rappers, you are making a mistake. Familiarize yourself with what makes a rap artist nice and what makes them wack before calling rappers wack because of what they rap about and calling rap wack because it is just 'speaking really fast'. |

The pedantic, sophomoric accusations from Sadalakced Acide of me 'dropping shit' aside, stormy and sorry could rhyme if you accent it right. So could crib and sayin. I'm sure that even the psuedo-intellect of Sadolakced Acid could have realized this if he was not too busy thinking of how to prove me wrong by pointing out what he probably thought of as a minor inaccuracy. Accentation is a big part of rap music aswell, without it there would only be a limited variation of words rhymed, and accentation only furthers rap music's notability and staying power by promoting creativity and modernization. So your way of proving that I was 'dropping shit' was to point out that you thought two words I referenced didn't rhyme? You got me. |

How about we close this post when you make another 'witty' rap that touches on all the elements I posted in my original post, then we could make some progress. Otherwise, you are just confining rap to your narrow minded thoughts, immediately dissmissing it offhand for whatever reason - hell, I'm not even sure why you dislike rap. And once again, what type of music do you listen to? |

Nah Suzzette that couldn't be it, because a black person started the music he listens to.
He can't avoid black ppl music no matter how hard he tries, if thats what he considers it. And who says rap is just black ppl music anyway? |

This dude said he'll never listen to "black people music" and hates "black people music" .. which tells me that he only thinks rap music should be isolated to black people only .. what's wrong with this kid? smfh .. stop being ignorant and lighten up. So I guess this dude will NEVER listen to a song recorded by a black person .. |

How are we supposed to debate with one so narrow minded, one that skirts around questions directed to him, and one so ignorant that he himself does not do anything except repeat the same points over and over that have already been proven wrong? I think a better option would be to suspend Sadolakced Acid for spamming - because intrinsicly that is what spamming is, posting repeatedly but not contributing anything to the post. We'll all miss your witty comments and psuedo-intellectual personality. |

you don't debate with me. It can't be done, not in this topic.
it's personal opinion. i've said it before, i'll say it again. music is personal opinion, personal taste. there's nothing wrong with rap, except that i don't like it. but tha'ts just for me. for someone else, it may be the objectionable lyrics. for another, it's probably the most relaxing music in the world. and jason, i don't choose the music i listen to based on the race of the artist- i choose it based on whether or not i like it, which looking to see who sings it first. it's other people, usually those who like rap, who are all like "dang, you just don't like black people music, don't you" i usually counter with "i don't like country either", but usually it's not worth the effort. |

The talent of any artist is not objectionable to a degree - and rap music is least objectionable out of most major genres. This is because Rap music has two variables - lyrics and beat, and the artist only controls one of those. In other genres such as Rock music, you can debate that the artist's guitar playing skills compromise for his lackluster lyrics. We are debating what makes rap music negative, and why? |

When you said, "I'm just playing. I did that purely to irritate you Go Steven. :P Oh no, sorry. Just that last part because I know not all rap is about hoes and stuff. The rest was serious. this nerdy kid has no knowledge in rhyme schemes at all .. does he? wow stop trying, and try dying .. I swear rofl, someone needs to end your life right quick .. OH BOYYY Kid, I really really really really REALLY don't believe you are one to talk. I've seen your work. Most of it is terrible. I didn't think you knew what a rhyme scheme was. you don't debate with me. I agree with you on both points made. That's what I was just about to say. It doesn't really matter. If you like it, go you. I just wanted to throw in that it doesn't take much talent to record and be good at rap. |

QUOTE I just wanted to throw in that it doesn't take much talent to record and be good at rap. go write a rap. find a beat. record yourself over it. we'll let the masses of cB decide how good you are. i'm not saying this to make fun of you, or anything. but if you want to completely and totally prove your point, i think this would be the best way to do it. if anybody else can think of a better way, always open for suggestions. |
