I've been noticing that the mods are being really sensitive and non-lenient towards spam and those who spam. so, i decided to bring out my intelligent side and try to derive a reason for them being a bunch of bitches...

I don't really understand the negative points of spam when its mostly just talking to someone else in a topic. The mods happen to demand that we overlook member-bashing that's directed towards us, so why can't spam be treated the same. Simply ignore the spamming and it will eventually stop....

I was introduced to this site and told that it would be just like going to a mall or a new school. I would merely introduce myself, get acquianted with some of the members and have fun. Spamming is the one thing that makes this site worth coming for. No one wants to come to a site and deal with the same issues that occur in reality. As "horrible" as it may be, it shows someone's true self. I'm not trying to disrespect anyone, but you'd have to be a damn fool to attempt to eliminate spam when its what keeps this site running....

Truthfully, if this continually over-moderation and hatred towards spam continues, i guarantee that this site will lose a considerably amount of members. But its not my decision whether this continues and it shouldn't be the mods' either. cB as a whole should have a say in whether this gayness/ pussification of cB continues...

well when you have a ton of spam in a topic
and then someone comes to reply to the actual topic

no one reads their post because they have to go through all this spam to get to it.

I disagree with you.
Spam is okay sometimes, but too much of it is horrible.. and annoying.
The only people who appreciate it, are the ones doing it.
And I dont think any of the mods are being "sensitive", so yeah.. I dont understand where you are coming from, saying that.

Createblog isnt run merely on spam, If people would grow up and be mature, we could all talk and have a good time, without spamming.
We could get in deep discussion about stuff, or just talk about interests and other things.
... But because some are immature, I guess they cant do that?

You bring up an interesting point, and as I said, Spam is okay sometimes, but too much.. is no good.

I have to admit... Spam is fun when I'm doing it... but not fun when other people are doing it and I'm not in on it.

I'm torn on the issue.

lmfao son acting like typing with capital letters and periods means he got a valid point. nah fall back spam is fun for the maybe 2-3 people involved but when you change the subject of the post for a whole page, it defeats the whole purpose of a forum and alienates all the other members from having a real discussion.

well, some topics are boring and need some spam to spice it up.

^but you're capable of doing so in a wordy enough manner that it's actually entertaining, Justin. People like Kevin who just say like one word and have a conversation like that, not so much.

...

You know, they're really not overmoderating in the least. If anything, there's been such an excess of spam because they were trying to be lenient. Do you realize how ironic this topic is? People are unhappy because of the quality of posts these days, not the other way. If the spam were to coninue, that would be cb suicide. As it is, every action has an equal and opposite reaction (wooo for learning things in physics). Spam was the action, coming down on it is thee reaction. It's perfectly fair.

I used to question why spam was bad too, as long as there was conversation, but I definitely see why now. It's hard to find posts that are actually worth reading like this.

^ Who's Kevin?

Anyways, Yen's club spammers actually make things boring. Spam can be fun and annoying. I agree with Acid though.

Also, Evan is awfully annoying.

But Sandra, you kind of make a good point. If you must spam, at least do so sparingly, because this overload is just awful.

Of course, that raises a problem: uninteresting threads are spammed and then appear at the top of the list of threads, while interesting threads are pushed to the bottom.

It would be more interesting (and thus less boring) if people just posted interesting topics, instead of just spamming to get attention, but that takes effort, and very few cB'ers actually want to put even a tiny sliver of effort into posting. Most just want a lot of attention.

i agree with Kara and Michael.

Usually when i go to a topic to actually read what it's about, about 3 pages of it is filled with spam. so i lose interest in it and leave the thread. there is a time and place for spam...like the sandbox. and if you think the sandbox is stupid, then tough for you.

well, usually a spam session can only last a few hours at most, and then normalicy would be restored to the topic order.

but if the topic isn't interesting enough for people to post in a lot, how would it get lost in the bottom?

Do you really want to wade through a back and forth spam conversation when you're looking for content in a thread, especially if you're interested in it? NO, no one cares about people's inside jokes or one liner LOLs. It's not that hard to post non-spam.

usually, a thread with a spammish first post will generate discussion, while a thread with a direct, antispam first post, will get lots of singular replies, and generally suck.

Sad as it is, it's true.

See the problem is, the mods are seriously trying to be more lenient. But the leniency doesn't mean that spam and posting porn and being crude is okay, either. It's ironic that when the mods are trying to be more lenient, they're pretty much forced to punish people more because people think that all sorts of crap is acceptable now.

It's all very annoying.

i blame bad topics.

if i see a topic like
"what's your favorite color" or something where people just post one word answers, it's like... an instinct for me to spam and inject some life into the thread.

here's an exampe-

http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=135731

nice, long thread. of people. saying what they're obsessed with. no discussion. whatsoever.

if spam was tightened down, any attempt to start a convesation would be censured.

I don't have too much of a problem with the conversations (some of them erally are interesting), but I get annoyed at one-word answers and the porn. Not that the porn appears very often, but when it does.. ew.
