omfg.......I DIDNT SAY THAT!damnit,yu the one who asked "What if ALL rap did that? Would that still be music?" to what i said rap includes in the songs,so im not saying if rap is repetitive then its not music,so get that straight. What i am saying is that IF rap is only on that subject then really can yu call that music?SO look at the IF and differ it from me actually saying since it is true that its repetitive in most rap songs, that its not music than me saying if..

^no this is what yu said:
"So now you are saying if rap is repetitive, its not music?"
ok lemme just get to your question, and in my opinion no its not music if its repetitive on same subjects such as hoes,b-tches,getting shot,drugs,e.t.c.

-you would just be hearing the same thing over and over so therfore you cant really say its music if its only on one subject which i listed above.

Rock music seems all the same to me. Bass, Electric Guitar, and Drum Set, why is that music?

What about rock? Rap has got it's ups and downs, rock has got his ups and downs. All music genres have got their ups and downs. You choose how you want to see them, either up or down. I don't think this topic is really debateable because every argument used here is based on opinions. I haven't seen a 'fact' here.

Yes this is debatable because, and its not how we choose to see it,we just see it directly for whats wrong with it.This is not a debate about why is rap good, its asking whats wrong. And thats what were pointing out through opinions, facts, and experience.

"Rock music seems all the same to me. Bass, Electric Guitar, and Drum Set, why is that music?"

Its not the instruments that make it the same.ITS the subject. If all rap is about having women,or getting shot,or doing drugs,e.t.c always saying in most of the songs "shake shake shake that a$$ girl, bend over let me tap that a$$"Thats why you cant really say its really music because its based on one topic.Which i just used as an example.

So because something is repetitive it's not music? Classical music repeats itself all the time.

Can you explain how?

Please explain to me why rap is not music because it is based on 1 subject. What is your definition of music?

Actually, a lot of music repeats itself. Are you just saying like in the songs they say the same things? Or in general all rap songs say the same thing.

I'm not sure what that's supposed to mean.

No in general theres a big percent that most of it talks about the same thing.not all though. And my definiton of music is welll..i dont really know but i wouldnt expect it to be country(white)and i wouldnt expect it to be saying "oh girl bend over"or w.e things like that.

are ringtones music?

is a kid banging pots music?

there's no point in arguing whether or not rap is music. it's subjective. haven't you heard the expression "music to my ears"?

to me, rap isn't music. Why? Because i don't like it. I don't enjoy it. So to me, it's not music.
what's wrong with rap? I don't like it. That's what's wrong with rap.
for you, maybe there's nothing wrong with rap.

this is a trumped up topic. It's personal opinion.

what are you guys debating? Nothing. There are no facts. There will be no winner. And this is a pointless "debate"

^ Banging pots can be part of music. Have you ever heard of Stomp?
They don't use real intruments. They use their own body parts, and other objects that you wouldn't expect. They used brooms, sticks, garbage cans, soda cans, etc.

What's wrong with rap?

It depends on who you're asking.

Normally, rap isn't my style, but I still qualify it as music. Bjork thinks throwing nickels into an oven is music, so why can't rap be music? I'm not one to make a blanket statement about rap, but I can understand why less discerning minds wouldn't like it. A lot of the stuff that gets radio play is obnoxious. The stereotype maintains that rap degrades women and glorifies the gangster lifestyle. But, not all rap is like that. So, it's not fair to judge the genre by the select songs that the media chooses to expose the public to.

Yes, it's repetitive. But, then again, so is most music. The average song is organized:

Verse
Chorus
Verse
Chorus
Bridge
Chorus

Repetitive nature doesn't signal a lack of originality. That's just how a lot of songs are. So, that's definitely not something that's necessarily wrong with rap.

I'd say the only thing that's "wrong" with rap is the stereotype.

i guess the reason most people dont consider rap music is because, although it focuses on the artists voice, the artist doesnt need any vocal skill to be successful. in other forms of music, the artist sings. in rap, to put it simply, the artist talks.

You mean, the reason most ppl who don't like rap. don't consider it music. Of course Rap is music as long as there is a beat in the background. Other genres wouldn't be music either if they just song by themsleves with no background music. rolleyes.gif Rap is the most popular music in the U.S. accordnig to soundscan and its becoming popular in other countries as well. If Rap isn't considered music, then answer me this, why is it all over the billboard charts? XD.gif
