i don't see rap as too different from other genres.

rappers are thugs.
rockers are potheads.
country singers are... annoying.

i mean, really, for me, it comes down to personal preference. i don't like songs about shooting bitches and hoes, so i don't listen to them. i don't like the sound of rap- so i don't listen to it. and i don't think that should be a problem.

mellow.gif I don't consider rap "music" Although it is put into that genre most of the time, I really don't think it fits that well. Most of the time...there is no singing...the same beat just keeps going and going and they have a little melody in loop in the backround. I'm just not into that thing.... mellow.gif

I'm not saying that people should stop listening to it. It's a free country, so they can do as they please. I'm just not one for rap, is all. I'm also not saying that there is no rap out there with a good message. It's just that people like to listen to the rap that doesn't send out a good message, most of the time. I would like to know how rap has helped people though...please enlighten us all, because i'd really like to know.....

Techno has no singing or even lyrics for that matter. Is that music?

Yes, music isnt necessarily about words but instead about the sounds.

no? royce da 5'9 is not a thug. kanye west is not a thug. tupac was a thug. not all rappers are thugs. I know the only reason why y'all hate rap is because of disturbing lyrics and repeating the same shit over again. well that is not true. rapping is like a confession/diary. they express their lives, what they feeling, and you can't really hate that.

The background music is, well, music. The actual "rapping" is talking.

Someone has said this before, but: No it's not.

"Hey Mom, can we go to the store today?"
I'm not rapping. I'm talking.

Well, I just don't consider it music. It leans more towards talking.

I personally don't like rap. To me, it's just someone saying a bunch of words.

What about instrumental music? Heck, there aren't even words at all. Is that music?

not all rockers are potheads either.

Most of them are. I'm not into rap though. While most rap/hip hop artists are pimps/gangsters, most rockstars are potheads/crazy.

Get it straight.

Rap is is rhythym and poetry. that's obviously what it stands for.

Rap is sometimes, something like a confession or a diary.

Even Jim Jones said it ..

Rappers can say whatever they want, it's their life. About political issues, gangs, cars, girls, the summer, anything they wanna express. I wouldn't really call "Rap" music not because I hate rap, I am a 100% rap/hip hop fan, but because, you don't really need to know the theory of music to start rapping. That is why nowadays, there are many artists and groups that made it to the industry with no perfect talent at all.

Of course my cinderella, to anyone it's hearing a bunch of words, because obviously a rapper needs to come in a lyrical pace, a maximum of 48 bars in a regular song .. unlike you hear in rock songs, they ain't short stacked .. if you know what I mean

QUOTE(sadolakced acid @ Jun 2 2006, 12:11 AM) *
i don't like black people music. (or country).

i mean, it's not that i say "a black guy sings this, i don't like it."

i just listen to what i like

and inevitablly, when people ask me what music i like, they come to the conclusion that i don't like black people music.

so that's why i don't like rap.

lmfao @ "i dont like black people music"

sounds hella racial .. so I guess even if it's non-hip hop, you wouldn't listen to any song recorded off by a black person .. thumbsup.gif

QUOTE(Madame C @ Mar 21 2006, 1:55 PM) *
In my opinion, hip-hop is the culture and rapping is an element of it, but as sillakilla said, the two are used interchangably to refer to the music.

yeah you guys also need to understand that hip hop and rap aren't really the same thing. rap came from hip hop because it is an element of hip hop. hip hop has many elements .. if many of you are clueless .. there is breakdancing, bboying, graffiti, rope jumping .. those are some of the basics of hip hop culture ..

that's why most hip hop stations you hear, the dj's would be sayin "official station for hip hop and r&b" .. not "official station for rap and r&b"

because ..

gangsta/old school is under rap and rap is under hip hop .. all connected .. hip hop all comes first

So basically when you say "rap is poetry"then poetry is really about expressing your self?correct me if im wrong but if they are expressing them selves then rap is still bad because when they say "b-tch and hoe and slut this and that she was riding my sh-t"or w/e like that. Its still teaching younger kids to be like

"yo yo baby, come here and lemme tap that a$$"or "yo mama, cook me some food b-tch,yu ma hoe"Again correct me if im wrong on that but thats what i see.And thats why its bad.Sure if they wanna express them selves or in any other way say what they want or rap what they wanna rap about, then why the hell mainly if you watch the videos or listen to most rap songs 75% or less is mailny about saying "ma hoe was licking ma **** tapping that a$$ girl shake sha shake that a$$ girl"

So what were apose to leave the negativity of rap out?and just go on with our lives and just ignore the fact that the music is like teaching people things or words that they shouldnt really use going by age and stuff.Correct me if im wrong....

Yes. And to refresh your memory - I said "The background music is, well, music. The actual "rapping" is talking."

I didn't say anything about music not being "music" when it doesn't have words. Sorry, but I'm a pianist and it wouldn't make sense for me to think that, would it? :)

hootie and the blowfish suck too.

but then again, i don't like eminem.
its music. i don't look up the race of whomever is singing- i just listen.

and somehow, i don't seem to like any of the black artists.

i guess i just don't relate to songs about slapping the bitches and the hoes

and i don't like the syth, over-drum of the few songs i have heard.

in my opinion, the driving force of a song should be the bass guitar

A lot of people are against rap because of the topics of their songs.

I just don't like rap because of how it sounds.

Well... I like Eminem because of his meaning to some of his songs,

like the ones that mean something.

not like Just Lose it, but When I'm gone
