most rap i hear is horrible..but some is poetic, and if that is how the artist really feels, then that is fine with me.

the beats are what tick me off the most. too repetitive.

my god, i hate rap. it has no meaning, and i don't even consider it music. all it talks about is sex, b**ches, hos, and things that shouldn't even be sung about. it's utterly pathetic. _dry.gif

Well the most ppl i've talked to have said.. its the beat.. it's like a steady chant and a beat in the background.. so it's just A "SOUL disturbing" experiance for them.. i persanoly like SOME rap music but when you get explicit lyrics thrown in there, It's bad

It's kind of pointless to debate over something like this (In my opinion). People have there preferences. I do however think that many people have a misconception of what Rap really is, because of the mainstream image.

People like 50 Cent are only on this planet to make money, they do not are about lyrical content, or musical quality, its all about sales. He knows Sex, Drugs, and Violence will sell to the general population, so that is what he promotes, in an awful way (lyrically speaking).

If you listen to artists with "higher lyrical quality" I believe a higher appreciation for the genre can be achieved. Some artists I reccomend are: Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Wu-Tang Clan. Even Tupac and Biggie I consider on a higher lyrical level than say Chammilionire or 50 Cent.

i think this thread needs to be closed. i cant stand to read another cliche regurgitated answer by another person who has never heard rap outside of the radio. if u don't have an educated response just leave the topic alone, seriously, cuz even tho i may have extreme ideas i wont touch on a topic unless im educated on it. and all these lame bullshit reasons about why u guys hate rap are pathetic. first off rap/hip hop started off as, and will always be, a representation of the streets. all the talk about drug dealin, shoot-outs, and bitches and hoes is a lifestyle. that doesnt mean its acceptable or even a positive way of life, but rap is an outlet to talk about shit that doesnt get brought up in other aspects of society.

also, all the talk about 50 cent is played out. there are sooo many other artists other than 50 cent, so if u wanna base your feelings about rap around wat kind music that nigga makes then yur retarded. at least pick sum1 with musical talent... in any kind of genre there's good and bad artists. im not gonna sit here and say every rapper has talent cuz thats obviously false, but u need to realize that judgin an entire genre off 1 guy is just stupid.

rap has more meaning than most u ppl will ever know. sure if u listen to the radio u hear all that fabricated shit but thats why they make those records. u think anyone wants to go to the club and hear about sum1's grandma dying, or how hard theyve had to struggle to remain out of crime? if u are lookin for substance why dont u actually pick up a quality album and give it a few spins... if not shut the f**k up and stop wondering why rap is so shitty if all u are listenin to is the radio and tv.

personal preference.

yea, my friend once told you "you just hate black people music, don't you"

because i don't like hip hop or R and B or anything like that.

why? i think it sucks. i'm allowed to, right.

I agree with you.I think its bad for some communitys (where people live)because peronally i think it teaches kids to walk around saying "yo b-tch suck my d-ck h**"and also for them to like sag too much with their clothes.Well thats just where i live at i dont know about anywhere else. But so far as rap developed, where i live is all about big tits and booty and gangs and drugs.which btw i f**king hate.Thats why i dont like rap.

i can imagine it all in my mind:

"dude, i just listened to a 50 cent song the other day, and i realized i should stop paying child support. if that bitch wants money, she's gotta earn it. damn straight, rap helped me save 500 bucks a month. And i didn't need to switch to geiko."

Music is music. Just because the style is different, doesn't mean its "bad" or "sucks." Yeah, mainstream rap does contain a lot of unecessary lyrical content, but rap shouldn't be to blame, should just be the rapper.

Nelly has established a non-profit organization for Katrina
David Banner as well as many other rappers helped out during hurricane Katrina.
As if I really care to list the others.

But then again I'm pretty certain since rap doesn't help our society some other music genre is changing the world by having us slit our wrist and become emotionaly depressed yo. thumbsup.gif I just learned that from a emo song I listened to. XD.gif

Is music suppose to help people? I've always thought music as a form of entertainment. Sure, it is a form of art of which people are influenced, but it shouldn't really change one's outlook on life.

mellow.gif I don't consider rap "music" Although it is put into that genre most of the time, I really don't think it fits that well. Most of the time...there is no singing...the same beat just keeps going and going and they have a little melody in loop in the backround. I'm just not into that thing.... mellow.gif

I'm not saying that people should stop listening to it. It's a free country, so they can do as they please. I'm just not one for rap, is all. I'm also not saying that there is no rap out there with a good message. It's just that people like to listen to the rap that doesn't send out a good message, most of the time. I would like to know how rap has helped people though...please enlighten us all, because i'd really like to know.....

I personally dont like rap.
Because one, Im picky about music as it is.
And I dont like how it sounds, it annoys me. Some is okay... but most/all of the mainstream isnt very good IMO.

Excellent point, so if its a case of people helping people, then like Suzzette said how do other music genres help us?

Now that I come to think of it,
if you take away the shitty lyrics,
and the shitty so called "rappers"
rap is pretty good.
well hip hop atleast.
Like Hollywood Undead is awesome,
but they have a mix of Screamo,
and Gym Class Heroes are cool.
I still prefer the music I listen to anyways.

How do rock artists help people?

i never said anything about other artists helping people.

i was merely questioning the original statement.
