It's something about the UN passing a law on making Simplified Chinese official and abolishing Traditional Chinese.

That's horrible. I've learned traditional all my life, but was trained to read simplified towards the start of high school. I never really liked it, and my teachers prefered the traditional way anyway. By then, I was way too busy...so I quit Chinese school freshman year.

The UN, of all organizations? This I find hard to believe. I can understand if they just want to make Simplified Chinese official and keep Traditional Chinese also, but to BAN Traditional Chinese?! That's a violation of our basic rights as a human being!

WTH? I want a protest against this. Banning Traditional Chinese is completely ridiculous. You cannot just ban something like this.

Mmm..anyway. I have this four year old girl guest at my house right now. She's from Taiwan, and her Chinese is way better than mine. mellow.gif It makes me feel pathetic. -.-

Yeah, all my younger cousins from Taiwan make me feel bad too. They know more English than I know Taiwanese ): My four years of Spanish doesn't even make up for that.

I'm pretty fluent in Mandarin as well. But then again, English is my second language (but only by a year...I was born in Califronia after all...)

I'm very fluent in Cantonese, but my reading and writing leave MUCH to be desired.

I don't know, I don't feel too ashamed about it. I know I'm trying my hardest to learn, after all those years of Chinese school. I did come to North America when I was only 2, so I think it's a pretty good accomplishment. I must keep at it, though. =)

I learned English in preschool. Well, I was exposed to it in preschool. I learned most of it in Kindergarten.

^Right.

Lulu Christina- Oooh. Well, I was born and raised in North America so it's not like I had a choice to speak it or not. My Chinese is slowly declining. =/ That's why I think it's beneficial for me to go to Taiwan during the summer so my Chinese can improve. Though, I must admit...my writing and reading could be a whole lot better. Uhg. So much better.

Gigi- Aw, you sound like you're motivated. I wish I was. Gah. I suck in Chinese school.

lol u failure.

taking chinese at the HS is retarded. our class is half white people/foreigners (not trying to be racist) that cant speak mando for crud. so 80% is an A in our class and half the white people are failing.

but we did have an interesting presentation by my friends when they TRIED to introduce the class to asian music and lost the attention of the "bai ren" and all the fobs tried to suggest better artists

Uhg. I want Chinese at my school :[ Or at least f**king Japanese.

Actually, in my state, they're starting to offer Chinese more and more in HS classrooms...except they have to be AP Chinese classes. -.-" jeez.
