Phishing Alert: MySpace

Websense® Security Labs™ has discovered a phishing attack that attempts to steal the account information of MySpace.com users. A hyperlink is first delivered to victims via AOL Instant Messenger. Users who follow this link are taken to a fraudulent website that spoofs the MySpace.com login page. This page captures their MySpace account information and then forwards the user to the actual MySpace.com website.

The fraudulent site also sets a cookie on the victim's computer, which prevents the phishing attack from being displayed on any subsequent visits.

The phishing site is located in California and was up at the time of this alert.

I'm wondering if it's the same as r nspace.com (except without the space.)
Where they get your password with the fake log-in page.

jinkies

Clicking on links (especially those sent via emails or AIM/Instant Messenger du jour) is never a good idea.

Exactly what I was thinking, lmao. But that's a pretty realistic duplicate. Eh, I wouldn't fall for that stuff 'cause I don't click on links sent through AIM unless it pertains to something in the conversation 'cause I'll know it's not a bot.

definitely had it happen to me,
on accident one time.
it just posted random bulletins from me...
and that was all.

I changed my password and everything is fine.
now, everytime I get one of those screens,
I immediately press "home" on my browser
to see if it really logged me out or not.

I didn't know about the AIM-sent links. I just know that the way phishing started was through phony, spammy bulletins that told people to enter their password to add a friend's "new" MySpace. It happened to three of my friends and they all freaked out till I told them to change their passwords. -.-
