it's about a pakistani (i think) girl who marries to this guy at a young age. but her husband is very sick and it turns out the family only wanted the boy to marry her for her dowry. they were using her and her money so they could take the boy to the ganges river where "he would be healed." and the boy still dies, and then her father-in-law soon afterwards. the evil mother-in-law abandons the girl in vrindivan. it's very sad. she gets a job doing embroidery and marries another guy. the end.

I've read it. It got me really emotional, even though it's way below grade level. I just picked it up in the library and kept on reading because it really interested me.

Another good book like this is Shadow Spinner. It's not related, but it's also set in a Middle East location, and both are about young girls.

yeah, even though it's way below my reading level, it's still a good book.

I've read this book. I don't remember a lot about it but I know I liked it. I also liked Angel on the Square, which is by the same author who wrote Homeless Bird. :]
